Error while attempting to start game

I hate to take everyone away from their civilizations, but I just purchased an ATI Radeon all in wonder card 2006 edition. When I go to start game I get an error message that reads: Failed to Initialize Renderer - Check DirectX Version and Graphics Settings. Can someone help me out? Thank you.

i have the same problem.every time i try to launch the game it loads for a few seconds and then it shows this message:
Initalize renderer failed. Check DirectX installation, latest graphics drivers and graphics settings parameters:

Error: CReation failed: Could not match desired fullscreen mode

install patch v1.61 the game has problems with ATI cards if this doesn't work then its your settings
