Escape From Zombie Island 2 ready for public consumption

Riot Cop

Riot Cops are part of a newly hired plice force and being a recurit they were trained to the fine arts of the Riot Police. A baton and trusty shields. They thought they were ready for any mob. Well they didn't exactly count on facing a zombie mob.

Some of you have been experiencing problems with the Luxury Resources showing properly in your "city screens". I believe this is due to the need for a more direct index between the Resources.pcx and the luxuryicons_small.pcx that show in the city screen. I have re-extablished a direct index for the luxury resources that should correct the problem. Updates concerning this soon.

Morris
Morris sat in a darkened corner of the Conference Bar oblivious to all the strangeness around him while Klingons, Vulcans and Starfleet Officers rubbed shoulders with Cylons, Vorlons, Elves and Imperial Storm Troopers.
'Sacked! I've been sacked! Damn that Company stealing my ideas and those close minded corporate bean counters!! Well I've had it with this country, I'm going back home and spend some time with my chums in the culture of London where I'm appreciated.'
Morris finished his gin and tonic and indicated that he wanted another. A fresh drink was placed in front of him.
"Excuse me bar tender, but may I also have a twist of lemon with that?"
"Got no lemon, sorry pal" and went back to serving beers to the animated costumed customers crowding the small room.
'Damn this country doesn't even have a history, in fact it wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for us.'
His musings were interrupted, "Hey babe what ya think that is?" a drunk in a very bad superhero costume slurred to his leatherclad companion while pointing next to Morris.
He sighed "A Dalek"
"A what?!"
"A Dalek, you know from the BBC series Doctor Who", he cringed sadly waiting for the expected reply.
"Doc Who? Never heard of him? ...". His companioned giggled uncontrollably at her boyfriend's wit.
"Yes very droll old chap, very droll indeed"
"Yeah Buddy ... Hey Xena let's go check out the comics"
They left and Morris returned to his drink and fumed. Even attending this conference was a let down, none of these geeks could even appreciate the design genius of his working model.

Deciding he had had enough Morris finished his drink and slowly wheeled the Dalek through an obstacle course of costumes and makeup, past excited debate on which Trek spin-off was the best and the serious issue of which universe had the stronger heroes, DC or Marvel. Morris manueveured his Dalek into the lift and pressed the button, as the doors slowly closed another person entered.
"Thank you, thank you very much"
Morris smiled "Looks like I'm not the only one out of place"
The tall figure smiled sheepishly, "Yeah got ma dates mixed up"
The doors closed and the lift started to descend ... Suddenly the lights flickered and the motors stopped with a shudder. "Damn, that's all I need. Looks like we're stuck in a lift. What else can go wrong?"

They waited together Morris, the Dalek and the man dressed as Elvis while outside the laughter and babble of excitement was replaced by screams of horror and the crashing of furniture and glass.

Dalek
Morris looks with pride at what he had done, it was now armed and dangerous and ready to be tested. Based on the model of a UK cult television classic that he had built for a science fiction conference, the Dalek looked like a large pepper shaker. It was cramped inside and while not fast it was surprisingly manoeuvrable, a converted and modified motor from an electric wheelchair supplying the thrust. The vision was limited to a protruding single eyestalk but Morris had added infrared, zoom and movement sensors. A long extendible arm could probe and push most obstacles and a vicious weapon which discharged a high voltage stream of electrons would ensure that he could fry any human or infected that he may encounter outside. Stairs would be a problem but he intended staying on the streets.

The time for testing was done, Morris squeezed into the tight working space inside the Dalek chassis and locked the hatch. The lights went on, the eyestalk and probe moved jerkily about and the motor hummed as he trundled about.
"Ha Ha Ha Ha ... time to EXTERMINATE some Vermin !!!"
Suddenly a frizzing bolt of energy emitted from the gun, and a pile of boxes exploded and bits of debris rained down burning.

The Dalek slowly whirred its way out of the safety of the building and onto the footpath and stopped. The eyestalk swivelled about and then focused on the street sign.

The Dalek turned effortlessly and moved on, travelling slowly in the direction of the Company offices far away.

Thanks :)

Installed the updates and started again on Authorities, Rating 18

I like the new colour scheme ... cannot see Company new color yet but the borders now stand out more

EDIT ... Company also better colour ... Cash Green :)

Re. walls showing. I'm going to remove the defensive bonus from Bations (Palaces) so at least walls will show on the map for those locations.

Soon. Probably. Anyway, don't you think that Kindred scout is a better spunky kid graphic? Or that Zeb's Brother as another unit instead of reusing the Villista graphic? But I understand about the new units thing, I have more ideas for later, :).

(BTW, I might be able to c'n'p a scythe onto the wild farmboy, I'll try, :). I'm also doing some new LD pcx's for Hannibal and Van Allen.)

I'll need to check Kindred's scout in game just to be really sure. Zeb and his brother's similarity can be explained by inbreeding ;) That'll need to written up the civilopedia.

A C'n'P version of the Falxman would be excellent. Check with Vuldacon re. the LD pcxs as he may have done some already. He'll read this and tell you I suppose.

I can't wait to try the new version! :) When do you guys think you'll be done by?

We have a rather annoying Crash To Desktop bug somewhere that is proving very difficult to track down. It's not an absolute showstopper as you can reload from autosave and continure playing. What makes it hard to find is that it's intermittent with no discernable pattern.

The only other thing stopping us is perfecting the gameplay, most importantly the balance. I think there's very few real bugs left to be found.

So there's your "answer" ;)

Testers... Did the update correct the Luxury Resource problem you were experiencing with Cola and Pills?

Regarding the Kindred Scout...No sounds and all flcs except the Victory Flc would have to be altered along with Flc speeds to change the slow motion animations. Not to step on the opinions of anyone but it doesn't look or fit the Spunky Kid any better than what is now being used and would require a great deal of work to be able to add it. IF it was a "perfect unit" for the position, it would be worth taking the time to do the work to make it usable. The Spunky Kid is another Unit that needs to be made specifically for the game rather than try and make units that do not fit work for him. We already have a "non Spunky Kid" holding that slot so unless there is a specific unit that really fits the position, it is not worth the time and effort to add another temporary change now.

odintheking... If you want to make a good Cut n Paste scythe for the Wild Farmboy, that would be ok but what are you thinking of concerning the LD pcx files?

Here, I want to make a civilopedia entry. :D

---Hand Built Tank---

Dereck "The Brain" and Smitty were walking quietly through the library.
"Are you sure there's food here Brain?" Smitty asked quietly.
"Yes, I saw it here a few days ago," He responded.
The small group walked around for hours looking in vain. They were about to give up when Dereck saw something.
It was a book about the inventions of Da Vinci. It was laying on a coffee table, opened. Just where somebody had left it. The page it was opened to showed a diagram of Da Vinvi's famous tank. That's when Dereck had an idea.
"Smitty, we've got to get these plans to Hannible. I have an idea..."

---Zombie Gunman---

Tom and Tony were trapped. Thinking that they could find a shortcut they had gone down an alley near Paradise Cities Armoury. Sadly, this area was swarming with zombies.
"Dammit Tom! We're outta bullets, and those beasties are gettin' closer!"
"Well don't look at me, I didn't... Wait look over there!"
In the distance the silhouette of army personel appeared.
Tommy began to shout: "Yes! Yes! We're saved! It's a guardsman Tom! We're saved! We're..."
Tony never finished. In the darkness five bullets rang out. Tom looked around to see who had fired, and then he understood.
The Guardsman walked right up to him. Tom looked up into the rotting face of zombie-troop. The zombie pointed his gun right at Tom and muttered "Brrraaaiiins..."
"Oh Hell..." Exclaimed Tom.

Lord Malbeth... Those are Great entries and to the point. You managed to offer an explanation for those units without lengthy writing. "Oh Hell, I like it", Exclaimed Vuldacon

Seems that we have quite a Group of writers.

Monster Zombie by Day 3!!!! plus only 18 level. This is so not balanced. ahhhh..there should be two versions.. one with this setting for the lower level and one more balanced for those play above certain level. Otherwise people complain it's too easy.....tough to put a balance on though.

my hats off to you fe3333au nice story

yes indeed...the only real practical way of having all levels playable with the best game balance on one version is to have the easiest level too easy and the most difficult level almost impossible  Players who find a level too easy to play can then play on a more difficult level.
I think the Mid-Level 12A should be "normal" and anything below it progressively easier. Anything above 12A should be progressively more difficult. From far too easy to way to difficult...leaving the few levels in between more toward "normal".
We probably should have the majority of testing on level 12A or 15 and make sure the game play is as it should be there. Lower levels would then be easier and higher levels more difficult as they are suppose to be.
one problem is that if the game is tested by someone who plays only easy or only difficult levels, they will find 12A or 15 too easy or too difficult.

Bottom Line: the Game play should be well balanced and Fun to play in the Mid-Range levels and the easier or more difficult levels will be more as they are suppose to be ..."too easy and Too difficult".

I know that this is for the next upgrade when the Farmer get upgraded but thought I'd put it in away ...

I see that the Wild Boar Inn to be a pub that local rural folk drink at ... and being an insular lot, the patrons are distrusting on the city folk. In fact the only east'nah that drinks there are the violent outcasts of a more civilzed and controlled society that is Paradise Island, and possibly tough boy wannabes looking to proove themselves in a fight.

Reason I thought this is I believe KingArthur has a biker unit in mind for the survivors. If this unit is eventually added, I think it could be good if Zeb had one ...

He would symbolise a 'tough mothah ex-convict' sort of fellow, who feels more comfortable drinking and fighting at the Boar. He is so tough that the 'locals' have grudgingly accepted him.

To make it fun ... have him preplaced near the Gentleman's Club and his first task is to get back home to safety on his hog.

Anyway enough of this flight of fancy stuff

@Cloner ... that is bad for you  ... I (Authroities) am day 3 and have not encountered them yet ... I have Aid Relief, Keep Em' Out, Call 911 and researching Revenge of the Nerds. I am also in a morale boost due to a champion killing a unit (much better parameters than before) ... At War with Company as well, they didn't like Sam Hammer snooping around the reactor and I suspect he has been captued .. or maybe is now working for them ... you can never tell with him, he is a cash mercenary after all ;)

@Vuldacon ... The upgrades work for me ... good point with the game levels ... I will finish current game and then future test at the 'average' rating.

@Odin the King ... any chance you can give Zeb a straw hat and overalls ???

@Lord Malbeth ... nice matey, keep it up ... and even suggest additions to an entry that is already written.

Refarding Aircraft and Elvis and any other bombarding unit ... I don't recall which unit, probably Zeb's Cropduster because I kept on clicking on 'auto bombing a location' instead of the unit :wallbash: ... anyway I ended up clearing an improvement (think it was street) ...

Do you think that destroy terrain action could be disabled or at least produce a crator ... although the latter would not look good if a Skyscraper ended up sharing the crator graphic.

well some units have that ability you just have to becarefully.
funny in my games I see pills icon on the skyscrappers and quite a few. I probably have the wrong file or maybe I overwrite the wrong one.

I think the reason fe3333au you don't have any monster is because you captured convention center right? there's a source of zombie goo there that zombie have immediate access to so they can't build it. for me as company and survivor have no way of capturing that building fast enough to disallow zombie their access.

In my company game I successfully capture the convention center and monster zombie flow stopped. enough to save my own hide. however I got 3 champions Mr. Smith :) someone form purchasing and Allan from Accounting.
sadly though former employee Jeff Morris was killed in crossfire when convention center was taken.
