Et Cetera... [Graphics Modpack WIP]

I've been working on the ethnic unit sets for the past week or so and I've managed to finish up the Japanese. One down, thirty three to go. Here's a preview of most of the units for Japan to prove I'm hard at work:

This is certainly time consuming work! :crazyeye:

On a side note, I'm also changing the scale of naval vessels and assembling them into fleets by including multiple unit mesh groups. However, I've been unable to figure out how to make it so they don't all face straight ahead. Any help with formations here would be appreciated. :)

I had the same problem with one of my own boats. I was using the Galley.kfm and just changed it to one that attacks by broadside, like the Galleon or Privateer. As for naval units that have multiple ships, I am not sure if that change of .kfm works though, but you may want to try different ones.

Okay, I guess that makes sense, but I'd still reconsider it since it hasn't looked like that in a while and will undoubtedly cause confusion to others as well.

IIRC the stars on the EU flag also represent the member states, so I guess they just copied since the meaning is somewhat established already :dunno:.

Actually the stars on the flag used by the EU have nothing to do with the member states, it is in fact the flag of Europe as adopted by the Council of Europe. Here is a short description of what the falg is all about.

@ Dark Jedi something like this would probably be better for use as the Persian symbol (obviously without the numbers), as it was traditionally used to signify the divinely royal person of the Persian monarch (who himself symbolised the state).
Also on Portugal may I suggest (to get rid of the green you're complaining about) to revert the colours back to white and blue. Here is a link with the historical Portugese flags.

On the celtic design, mabybe a bit more intricate on the knot. Not quite this level, but that is fairly average for Celtic artwork.

Looking very good so far by the way.

Thank you very much for the Persian symbol! That's what I initially wanted to use but couldn't find a suitable image...I will edit it and see if I can make a decent flag out of it. :) I will also look into using an older version of the Portuguese flag. Thank you for your comments. :D

As for a status update, I nearly have 3 Civs done now...Japan, Russia and Germany. I've streamlined my editing of the XML files to make things quicker. I would also appreciate it if someone could point me towards some good units for Ancient/Classical Russia. Right now I'm using danrell's Kievan Rus units but they look too Medieval for the earlier time periods.

Well unless someone can point me in the direction of a mod that allows flags to change per era or technological period, the United States is sticking with the 13 stars. :) I should be updating the F&CC mod soon with some changed flags and a more diverse color set...

As for the ethnic unit sets, they're coming along handsomely. :D I really enjoy piecing together the best that the community has to offer. So far I have several nearly complete sets: Japan, Germany, Russia and England with work starting on France. Where the art is available I'm also doing different unit art across eras...for example; swordsman, axeman, archers, etc. more resemble longbowman, knights, etc. in the Medieval, and Rifleman look more like WWI infantry in the Industrial. Perhaps more screenshots will follow soon. :)

By the way. I meant to tell you a little anecdote about the Viking symbol. I use that flag of yours in my mod and we got to discussing it, Ajidica and me. He knew that it is called the "Valknut", the triangle of three. I thought it was so cool and hypnotic that I just had to have it.

The Valknut is a symbol for the Norse god Odin and the symbol has been found on several carved stones on the island of Gotland off the coast of Sweden. It was also found in conjunction with the Oseberg ship (a still well-preserved Viking ship) in Norway. Also, it has been found on some Viking archaeological artifact in England.

It's an excellent symbol for the Vikings! Maybe you knew all this. :)
