Can anyone describe to me the different ethnicities, and their differences in China?

ON Victoria, a game I play, there are groups such as Beifrangen (sp?) and nanfrangen (also sp?) and I just want to know what real, tangible differences are between the groups. Its great to learn!

Because knowledge is power

According to a travelling documentary i saw. they said there are 52tribes/ethnicities in China. Including Miao(yunan), Dia (yunan), Han(ofcourse), Manchu(machuria), and many others.

Hope this will help :)

Beifangren and Nanfengren meant literally Northmen and Southmen. Much the same as the North Germans and South Germans that you'll find in the same game. And the Yue, Southern Min, Hakka, Hui (Muslims) peoples you'll find in the same game are considered as Han Chinese. All of the Han peoples are of the same cultural make-up, write in the same script, practise the same customs etc.

Next you have the 'minorities' - conquered peoples really. Like the Mongols, Manchus, Tibetans, Uighur, Zhuang, Bai, Miao etc peoples. These are amongst the larger groupings.

It's a easy question!
There're 56 ethnicities in China!
55 are less number ethnicities. And the Zhuang has the most people in 55.

thanks KD, as usual the Asian expert does his job well ;)
