Europa Universalis 2?

Yes.

Oh you want more? Well I haven't played it that much and whilst I can defeat my neighbours I always seem to be unable to research anything although this might be because I've been playing as the Incans and Aztecs lately.

Sorry, playing MOO3 now. :) I started a thread about EU2 and it may be on this page or one back...

played it a lot, but like munzy I got Moo3 now so I'm busy playing that for now, but EU2 is great fun, especially if you're playing a smaller nation in the middle of europe.

I can't believe how delayed moo3 was. I bought europa universalis 1 and 2 and found them to be so similar that if I allowed someone else to load one up I couldn't tell which it was. Once you get round the poor manual you can get really involved for a time. I haven't played in a little while because it dawned on me it was a little shallow.
I hope you enjoy it. I really do, but alas I found it lacking.
Better go get my copy of moo3 now:)

Yes, Europa Universalis 2 was the last game I bought and I'm playing it (I mean I play it on weekends), and I like it. But I've only played the Great Campaign and only until 1507 I think.

It's the last game I played although that was some months ago - I've been to occupied with, as they say, Real Life!

You have to be particularly absorbed in history (especially European) so that you are motivated to delve into the details which constrain your actions. There are various strategies to adopt and yes, the smaller nations are more of a challenge eg Portugal with the emphasis on colonization (interesting here to play from the viewpoint of the colonizer rather than the colonial settlers as in SM's Colonization).

A visit to the main forum at Europa-Universalis.com will show the incredible depth of interest in extreme challenges eg world conquest starting as a one province backward nation.

I've played EU2 for some time. The Napoleonic ages scen is cool and I downloaded a conversion for the first WW. Perfectly done.
But now my attention faded away to HoI. This is better than EU in my opinion because I like the timeframe more. I'm a WW (both) buff.

Yep, it's the greatest game about. I can't say enough about it. The diplomacy is wonderful :worshp:

I just wish Firaxis would pay more attention to it.

EU2 is awesome.
I bought moo3, age of mythology, and a bargain bin EU1.
My kids lost my EU1 CD while I was right in the middle of a game and I was SOO looking forward to finishing it that I had to go buy another copy. Picked up EU2 while I was there since I liked the first so much..........
AOM, and MOO3 $100 down the drain
EU1,EU1,&EU2 best bang for my 30$

I agree,it's one of the best games ever. But,you know, the better a game gets, the higher are your expectations.
The game is so full of excellent features like religion or diplomacy;but then no European nation cares, when the Ottomans conquer N.Italy and even make the Holy Seat a vassal! In no other game I'd complain about this, but in this I have to;I mean, when they include all these different religions and crusades and inquisition etc,the Pope being enslaved by the Ottomans in the early 15th century shouldn't go unnoticed by Europe.

Yes, I've played it. I think I made some comments about it Munzy's thread somewhere.
