Europa Universalis II

EU might look like a little bit complicated in the beginning I immediately closed the game after my first try (I got shocked from all the units running around, 1.000.000 diplomatic offers coming in at the same time it was a little bit too fast for me, too hectic ;) ) but after some time you get into it and it's worth it. Yes it posses also an addictive factor but of course not such a big one Civ has. So EU surely is a game worth to play but it will never be a classic.

I looked at this game every time i walked into the games store, but every time i looked at the graphics on the back cover i was but off.
Then i read this thread,(actually i think it was a compalation of a few ,saying this is better than CIV3).
I just bought it 2 days ago, and it was all good until i started speeding up the years to get my money together, thats when
it all went wrong.
The whole idea of the game is good, but you end up with pop-up, after pop-up of what U have done which reads like a really good porn site.....without the porn. If you don't believe me...........
Anybody who has a good games store beside them, that gives a trail-run on games,(with a refund) like mine ,give it a try.

Good game, but it dos'nt come come close to CIV3 for game play.

I have only EU, not EU II, so I don't know if it is different, but I always switch to Protestant for the imperialist capacity. Does anyone else always stay Catholic, or is the balanced changed in EUII?

If I play as Spain/Castille, I switch to counter-reform catholic. If I play as a pagan power, I definitly wait until a war with another country (most likely a european one) which I always lose, and thus are coerced into switching religeon (hopefully). This switching in the long-term, is usually much more beneficial then staying pagan as there is a 25% tech-rate decrease.

Gael, that can be fixed in the options, and shouldn't be a problem unless you're playing at maximum speed. I found that annoying at first, but it can be fixed.

I left the game back, but the whole game was copied on to my hard drive and works, so I still have it.
I play it occasionally, but i always run out of money and end up just sitting bored looking at the screen. (No instruction book)

I love the concept and scale of it, but i can't really get into it.

PS:How do you boost your economy?

Sending merchants, building trade posts or colonies in profitable foreigh climes, and promoting folk in cities. You've got to keep down inflation, don't borrow too much and avoid the necessity of maintaining gigantic armies.

I just put my cable modem to use, and download EU2 :goodjob: looks great, i'm still learning how to play it :(

Wow! I got this game about a year ago and it was so difficult to get into I gave up on it, and didn't play it again until a few days ago (I was extremely bored so I read through the instruction manual) and now... I'm hooked! Playing as Austria, and doing pretty well too...I've annexed most of eastern Europe and have set up colonies on the South African coast...

Anyway, I would advise anyone who enjoys strategy games (in particular historical strategy games) to give it a go. It's like a concentrated version of Civ 3 (you play from 1419-1820) and it's just as addictive.

I recently bought this game and it is great. It took me a long time to learn it though, it is very complex. I had to read the manual and play the tutorial twice before i felt competent enough to play.

The thing I love most about this game is diplomacy. It has the best diplomacy I have seen yet. Rather then wars simply consisting of taking over each others provences or cities and then eventually wiping them out or declaring peace. In this game there are peace agreements where you have to bargain to take their provences as part of the peace deal. (alot more realistic). You have to have a good reason to go to war (Cassus Beli). And alliances actually are alliances, unlike MTW.

This game is great :goodjob:
