I'm working on this modpack called EuropeanReligion. The aim is to change the seven world religions to 8- 4 religions and 4 Christian megablocs that are more akin to the European experience. Just the religions are changed, along with monasteries, cathedrals, etc. As this a religion mod only, all other aspects of the game remain the same.

So far I have changed the text, large buttons, and sound files for the religions. I mean no copyright infringement for these files.

RELIGIONS:
Paganism
Atheism
Islam
Judaism

MEGABLOCS:
Catholicism
Orthodoxy
Anglicanism
Protestantism

SHRINES:
Pagan - Hof of Uppakra
Atheist - The Evolutionsmuseet (University of Uppsala Paleantological Museum)
Orthodox - Church of the Nativity
Catholic - St. Peter's Basilica
Protestant - Great Reformed Church of Debrecen
Anglican - Canterbury Cathedral.
Islamic - unchanged.
Jewish - unchanged.

All of the text is correct except for the Atheist Monastery. Each leaderhead that had a preference for a religion not in the mod has had their preferences modified. For example, Catherine now prefers Orthodoxy, and Ghandi prefers "NONE".

Thanks to Dual for the Shinto 4.0 mod which I have based much of the programming on. However, this is my first mod and that means there are mistakes and things unfinished:

MISTAKES:

I can't get the Atheist monastery to work. Therefore, Atheist missionaries are automatically available :( and the monastery can't be built. It is going to be called a "School of Atheism"

The sound files that I have made that are supposed to be played same as Judaism and Islam sound files, placed in the same way as the Shinto 4.0 mod, are silent in game. I want them to be played: ""Long files for the videos and ""Dink files for construction and spread.

The shrines listing is not yet finished - this causes crashes when a non-Vanilla shrine is selected.

If someone could fix these problems and post the edited file back up that would be greatly appreciated. At this stage do not change any concept, just fix the links - thanks.

MORE TO DO:

If anyone would like to help finish the mod there are 5 more things to do:

1. Changing the small buttons that appear on the cities in the map, and appear beside the city in the list of cities on the religion screen, to match those on the diplomacy screens, research screen and top of the religion screen. Currently these are the default religions (the eighth one, Protestantism, is currently shown as the first corporation). *COMPLETE

2. Changing the buttons for the monasteries, cathedrals, shrines and temples (perhaps starting with the Age of Chivalry:Hegemony (AOEII Gold mod) for visuals?)

3. Changing the Shrines' visuals and vids - as I said, the text is correct, but the visuals and vids are unfinished.

4. Changing the missionaries:

Atheist missionary: to look like Great Scientist
Pagan missionary: to be female and perhaps like an Oracle of Delphi style lady
Catholic missionary: to stay as is in the mod, as the Christian Missionary.
Orthodox missionary: a mix between the Jewish and Islamic missionaries holding incense instead of a scroll?
Protestant missionary: an edited Christian missionary, with a different cross so they can be differentiated from Catholic missionaries.
Anglican missionary: like a Confucian missionary with a white gown and purple trimming, and holding a cross.

5. Changing the videos of paganism and atheism so they more accurately reflect European-style features (I saw a mod with an Olympic Pantheon video that will do but I can't download it?). I am perfectly happy for the Christian megablocs to all have the same video, provided they play their respective music files. If someone wants to change the megablocs' videos to be different to each other, they may.

If anyone want to do these things I am more than happy to take contributions. Feedback on how playing went would be appreciated, too.

I had to divide it into three to get it uploaded. To place it "as was" place the sound files into the assets/sounds/buildings directory in the mod.

I will upload it as soon as the website lets me :confused::confused:

EDIT: OK. It's in the next post.
EDIT: It's for BtS.

Here is a screenshot of the religions screen.

I don't have a need for this but I like Anglicanism & Protestantism icons, and here's a few hints that may help you finish your mod:

There is an Orthodox Missionary unit by Bakuel in the downloads database. You can also find it in my Sword of Islam mod, along with icons, sounds, buildings for Catholic & Orthodox religions. Check RFC Europe mod for Catholic & Protestant missionaries, icons, buildings. There's also a full set of missionaries, icons & buildings for Norse paganism, look in the db or big expansion mods.

You can also import the small icons (res/fonts) from these mods.

For religion sounds to work, they have to be mp3s.

Once you lose the status of new user, try using downloads database to upload mods. You should be able to fit everything into one download.

Love that you chose the Great Reformed Church of Debrecen as the Protestant Shrine :goodjob:

You could use the generic missionary used in a lot of the Warlords scenarios as the Pagan Missionary.

embryodead, I changed the sound files to mp3s but the same thing happens - only the OrthodoxDink sound file plays in game! The OrthodoxLong file doesn't work at all, and neither do any of the others. I may have done something different there in the .xml files, but I can't find the difference to change it!

Also, I've seen the screenshots of the Sword of Islam and the RFC Europe mods, and I noticed you managed to change the little icons of religion that attach to cities. Would you be able to give me a quick run through of how you did it?

As embryodead said earlier, a good place to get some graphics, buttons, sounds, etc for orthodoxy, catholicism and protestantism is RFC Europe. There is a link to the mod in my signature

The sound xml files works somewhat different as most xml files
For examle you cannot leave comments in them. Maybe not even blank lines?
One of these mistakes gave me quite a few headaches until I finally found the cause...

Icons are handled in the gamefont files, but they were extremely tricky to play with
But you are lucky, a few months ago Asaf made a Civ IV modding tool for this, you can get it here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=429541

Done! It worked and they look great - if a bit faint for the Orthodox one. But never mind. Using GIMP as well as the modding tool I got it done in less than half an hour. Okay. Now down to the missionaries, monasteries, temples, cathedrals and shrines. Would someone be able to check the programming for the atheist monastery? I can't work out why there's an error still...

Oh! And for some reason only the Orthodox Dink sound still works and none of the others.... And yes I did change them to mp3s.

On my computer they're not. Why won't my computer run them right?

A little more specifics if you want some help in this
For example, what's the exact path where you put the mods?
Do you run BtS 3.19?

Sword of Islam comes with auto-installer that has been 100% proof so far unless you don't have BtS 3.19. In such case, update your game.

If you happen to have a Mac, you can't play most mods without running Windows/Linux VM.

It says in About this Build:

Civ Version: 313
Save Version:301
Build Version: 3.0.0.1
Build Date: 22 September 2007
Build: FINAL RELEASE

I run Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
