I always find it astonishing, how the "right" way to play Australia is to be completely evil :mischief: How do you get AIs to declare war on you (And get that nice 100% production bonus for 10 turns)? Easy: Get as much warmonger penalties as possible. Break promises, station armies, declare surprise wars, occupy cities, raze them. When everyone hates you, they also declare war on you. You just have to make sure that they once in a while also agree to peace, before they declare the next war.

And of course you should play on deity because that almost guarantees an early war. And once in a while you should liberate a city state for even more production.

Somehow, the designers didn't really think ahead when they designed that ability. Obviously they intended Australia as a peaceful "citadel of civilization". Instead, they created the most evil and underhanded civ you could imagine :)

I find it more advantageous to use breathtaking campi and catapult ahead in technology, scan the AI's city roster for captured city states, then make a beeline right for them with knights and/or tanks, liberate, then leave. The AI, being the AI, will be prone to reconquer the CS soon after I leave. Rinse/repeat. If I need to annex a few cities in close proximity to my empire to mitigate the threat of the crazed city state enslaver's dastardly deeds in the future and raze cities farther in near the conquered city state, so be it. This gets me x2 (twice as long, 20 turns) the x2 production that an AI declared surprise war would get me, and I generally fight on the enemy's lands, saving my lands from the ravages of war so as to more effectively wage the next liberation campaign.

I think Australia's Uniques could be renamed and they could work as an American civ.

The production bonus, ranches etc. feel like the US somehow.

Also I was playing a sort of roleplaying game as Boers and I used Australia as them. The bonuses work well as a Boer civ too.. ;)

Anyway I think Australia is one of the most fun civs to play.

Imagine if they did give this bonus to the American civ and was basically like "be a warmonger and your civ will flourish"...shadyyyy hahah

Fighting against Germany I discovered that they conquered France long ago. So I liberated a french city while keeping all the german/french cities around as a province of Australia. It felt like an exploit. Nantes would flip to free, I would liberate it again, and so on. :)
