This is the official debate thread for all Executive candidates. This includes the President, Domestic Leader, Foreign Leader, Military Leader, Trade Leader, Science Leader and Culture Leader. All candidates who have accepted nominations for any of these positions should respond to these debate questions in full.

Be sure to state the position(s) that you are running for.

  1. A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

  3. If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
  4. Are you familliar with all of our laws?
  5. Do you abide by them?
  6. Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.
  7. How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
  8. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
  9. What makes a good Department Leader?
  10. Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

  18. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
  19. Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?

1. A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
I like the turn chats. They provide an opportunity for everyone, including regular citizens, to watch the game being played, and to make input on matters that arise during the course of play. I would prefer not going to private/closed door sessions.
2. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
I have played the game since it first came out, and have been a citizen since the first demogame. In that game, I was the Deputy for Foreign Affairs for a term, so I at least have some government experience.
3. If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
Padmativa.
4. Are you familliar with all of our laws?
Yes. The spirit of them, if not always the exact letter.
5. Do you abide by them?
Yes.
6. Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.
N/A (I think I am the oldest citizen. I am pretty sure I am the oldest candidate :p )
7. How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
I am of a mixed mind on this. I rather like the concept used when the US was young: a state's northern and southern borders were defined, and everything to the west that was between those two latitudes was theirs. Eventually western borders were established, and new states started beyond them. Something similar to that may work here. In game terms, 3 - 5 provinces around the District of Bavaria, with defined borders between, but open ended. Eventually, close the far end and start a new provice or two out there.
8. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
I have nothing but respect for my opponent(s). But given my greater age, and real life leadership experience (I retired from the US Air Force as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, and still hold an Officer commission in the Air Force Reserve) I think I could provide the direction and leadership this position needs.
9. What makes a good Department Leader?
Leadership. One needs to keep a finger on the pulse of the people, via discussions and polls, but "where the rubber meets the road", the Leader is the one who has to make the final decisions.
10. Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?
If someone is not good at the job, they shouldn't hold it. Personality problems within a deprtment are just that: within the department.
11. Why are you running for the department you are running for?
Because I was nominated. :D Seriously, because I enjoy being involved in this game, but real-life time constraints make it hard to do justice to some of the "more important" positions. Not that Culture isn't important, but the overall workload can be a little less.
12. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
I am only running for this one position.
13. What victory would you prefer?
I suppose I should say Cultural. :D Actually, since we are playing as the Germans, I expect a Military victory (Domination or Conquest), although a Science (Space Race) victory isn't out of the question. Still, a Cultural victory as the Germans would be a neat trick. :D
14. Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
I generally dislike pop-rushing. If critically needed, it is an available tool, but, IMO, the need must be critical.
15. What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
To me, Republic. It gets us out of Despotism, and gives us a good boost for commerce and production.
16. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
Regent.
17. If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
I am comfortable with Emperor in this game.
18. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes.
19. Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?
I currently spend 3 - 4 hours a day in the Demo Game forums (not counting time spent in chat). I would probably increase that amount if I found it necessary to perform this position.

Octavian X
Candidate for President

1. A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I feel that turn chats are one of the most important instrments in the game. Chats allow citzens to have more input in the game then is usual. Chats, I feel, also allow us to get to know each other better. They certainly facilitate discussion better than the fourms. iThey are unique to us, also. As far as I know, we are the only Democracy Game that uses them over closed sessions.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Technically, I have no experience as president. However, I have been honored to work in all three branches of our government. In the last game, I served as governor of Scythia, Trade Deputy, Trade Leader, and Chief Justice, all in two terms. This first term I was also the Chief Justice. I have a feel for all these branches of government, about the prespectives that a person in these offices would hold.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

St. Mark.

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Of course! Why else was I Chief Justice. I can't say I know more then Shaitan, though, despite the fact I've corrected him once or twice:D

Do you abide by them?

Well, duh! Of course!

Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.

I reduce demogame time. Real life must take precedence. I would, of course, announce I was doing so to the nation.

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors
quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")

I favor adding provinces as we go along. It simply wouldn't be right to have a province more from one end of the continent to another.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I have lots of experience in this game, am very, very familar with it's laws, and am very dedicated to our great nation!

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

Personally, I would want someone qualified to work at the job in my absence.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I believe that I can work to make Fanatika the best it can be. I am running for this reason. I want peoples form all over the world (other demogames) to look up to us, and to strive to follow her example.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

No. It would be illegal for me to do so.

What victory would you prefer?

I prefer the culture victory. It is the most dignified of the victory options.

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

I would say we should only use the whip in times of emergency, like a needed military unit to defend a city.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?

I would have to say literature. Even if we don't intend to build the Great Library, regular libraries will be the mainstream of our culture, as they are cheaper for us to build.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

I prefer Regent, but Monarch and Emperor or still OK for me.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Of course. Where do I get all those fancy maps?

Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change
if you were elected?

Currently, I commit about three hours a day to the Democracy Game. If I were elected, this amount of time would increase greatly.

Penguin For Science

  1. A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
Public TCs. Thats the way weve been doing it, thats the way it should stay/
  2. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
I have been Deputy for the last term and i wrote the Science Manifesto (the thing that breaks up the techs into categories). Also, I have always been a science minded person. As one may recall, I threatened to leave the DemoGame if a non-science civ was chosen. I was a supporter of the Build a SS and Go to 'Poly movement. My original census post read :Aspiring Scientist. It was there from which Almightyjosh pulled me into a province which i will keep nameless and made me head of its science department. When playing Civ, I only play as scientific civs, always get the GL first, and 9 out of 10 times, win by SS (the other 1 time is by Diplomatic). This is why I feel I would make a wonderful Science Department Head.
  3. If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
My city is Penguin, and with this win, I should be bumped higher up on the COS for naming.
  4. Are you familliar with all of our laws?
Yup, all the CO (insert third letter here)
Ah yes, the one i created last time. Well, youll be pleased to know im doing fine in all my subjects, but if i did fail, id go with choice A.
  7. How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
I currently disagree with this. We have Bohemia (officialy, now) and we should have 1 person look over her. If we had 3 governors, we would be in a state of chaos.
  8. Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
    Three Words: Trained by Strider.
  9. What makes a good Department Leader?
I feel a good leader is some one who knows what they are doing. Someone who is not afriad to take the blame for their failures. A good leader is some one who dares to "Think Different"
    Subliminal Mac Advertizing
Some one who will work with the little guy, listening to them. Someone to help them.
I feel i have these qualities
  10. Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?
Well, looks like Im goins to make a new friend. My opponent, Donsig (who is qualified) and I have not always seen eye-to-eye. Both of us are going to have to learn to get along, for the sake of the FNSD. Also, there is Strider. I get along with him fine, accept when I go on power binges.
  11. Why are you running for the department you are running for?
Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I am running for science leader because i love science. im that type of person who learns for fun. I just like science
  12. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
No, just Science. I turned down Culture and Prez.
  13. What victory would you prefer?
I am a fan of the peacefull victories (SS, Culture, Diplo), but since we are playing as Germany on Empeor level with the Aztecs near by, and 4 other opponents (at press time) we are going to take down, a Domination or Conquest victory is the only way. (Note- I do, though, prefer the peaceful type better)
  14. Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
No. It lowers prodcution rate for nothing.
  15. What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
    Literature. By far.
  16. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
    Chiefitan-Monarch.
  17. If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
Yes, thanks to the highly qualified people working with me.
  18. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
No, im a mac, but i am currently building a win box (Edit- all parts are here. box should be up by sunday)
  19. Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?
I spend a good two hours at the demo game (while doing homework). I feel that is enough time to do everything i need. If the public wants me to do more time, i will.

    In Conclusion,

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I like them. They give quick feedback, and someone might think of a very important (and last minute) gameplay issue that the DP might have overlooked.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Trade leader, VP, president in the first demogame, and president in the 2nd. :)

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

I already named one.

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

As best as I can.

Do you abide by them?

yes

Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.

N/A. I graduated.

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")

I disagree. If we have 10 governors, then we'll go back to the chaos of missing build queues.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I have extensive experience at trade.

What makes a good Department Leader?

Listening to the people, and not being afraid to take some risks.

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

As I answered last time, someone who I can work well with. Even if they aren't as good, it's teamwork (and careful instructions) that gets the job done. It also gives that person the oppurunity to learn the department.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I'm semiretiring since I'm moderating the Tournament forum now (which is part of the reason). Also, I want to teach GI the "tricks of the trade". ;)

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

Nope, can't. I was already president for term 1.

What victory would you prefer?

Culture. I'm more of a builder than a warmonger, but can exact a vengence if I feel our nation is wronged by another civ. (see "History of Greece and Iroquois in Demogame I") :D

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

Only in an extreme emergency, such as not having enough troops garrisoned.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?

Iron Working. It allows you to see the most vital resource in the game.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

Chieftain through Regent. I can handle monarch and emperor games.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Yes, my game is getting better at this level.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Of course.

Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?

I already participate as much as I can. However, since I'm a mod, that time is taken away a bit. But, I will still have time for trade.

The Great Iguanaman for Trade Minister

1. A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I feel turn chats are going pretty smoothly. I think that they should continue as is.

2. What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

I have been the Trade Chat Rep for 6 days :). I do not have much experience, but i am very qualified for this job. I have a knack for trade, and making self-explanitory charts to track our trade, also I am good with numbers so i can easily tell, for example, if lump sum ends up being better then payments. All in all, the experiences of my oppanent may be slightly more, but i will be a way better Trade Minister, possibly the best we have ever seen.

3. If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

Fantopia

4.Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Yes. I have read them throughly and frequently go back to them for references.

5. Do you abide by them?

Of course.

6. Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.

This doesnt apply to me. But lets say with my peformance at work. If my performance was going down, and my demogame time was going up, i would relax a bit off the demogame so that i can make money for a faster internet connection :).

7. How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")

I am against this, I think that we should settle on a set of rules that will be applied to each settlement. If it meets any of the rules, then it becomes a new province.

8.Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

The citizens ahould vote for me because i am responsible, dedicated, intelligent, and very qualified for this position.

9.What makes a good Department Leader?

A good department leader is someone who is responsible, dedicated, intelligent, and very qualified.

10.Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

Someone who i did not get along with, but was very got at the job. I will put my personal biasts away and make sure that the Trade Department is ran perfectly, regardless of my relationship with my deputy.

11. Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I am running for this position because the logistics and details of trade fascinate me. I thought about a few other departments, but i always do the best in trades in the game, so i decided to put my skills to use for Fanatika.

12. Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

I contemplated running for two positions, but i decided that i am fully dedicated to Trade, and i did not want any of my attention away from it.

13. What victory would you prefer?

I would prefer a diplomatic victory. This means we have pretty good realations with everyone, so that we can Trade to our hearts desire.

14. Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

I am against it unless its a need be situation.

15. What is the most important tech in the ancient age?

I would say monarchy. It sets us up with an excellent form of government fairly soon.

16. What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

I usually play at emporer. I am working towards playing on deity, but i hear Sid Meiyer himself cant win on that difficulty.

17. If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

It is, and i am very comfortable with it.

18. Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes.

19.Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?

Probably about 5-6 hours a day. This amount would probably stay the same, seeing as it currently is spent reading old forums and posts.

Well, youve heard all about me and my positions. I hope that come election day you will do the right thing and vote for The Great Iguanaman. A vote for The Great Iguanaman is a vote for Greatness!!

The Great Iguanaman

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

Well, I personally enjoy attending the turn chats but I do not think they are a vital part of the demogame and have in the past voted in favour of making them optional. Their mandatory status narrows the pool of potential presidents to those who are able to attend them.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

I have 6 terms worth of demogame experience. 5 of these have been spent in government positions and during all of this time I have been actively involved in discussion of the issues of the day. During the course of my past term as War Minister I have striven with success to achieve cooperation with the other council departments over the proposals I have made, and my tenure as Public Defender has left me with detailed knowledge of demogame law.
As president I would commit myself to the goal of conclusively establishing the will of the people regarding our mid to long term aims, and then encourage the individual departments to cooperate in formulating the plans and policies which would allow us to achieve those aims.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

I've not decided that yet ;)

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Very much so. One and a half terms as Public Defender has that effect on you. :)

Do you abide by them?

Yes, I do. I take great care to.

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")

I'm not in favour of it. I think that constant redefinition of provinces would result in confusion and prevent each province from establishing its own flavour. It would also make it harder to coordinate the various cities' build queues.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

Citizens should vote for me because I will focus the government on putting the true will of the people into action in a coherent and cooperative manner, rather than allowing the current chaos to continue.

What makes a good Department Leader?

Enthusiasm for the work of their department and for open discussion & polling of actions to be taken in the performance of that work. It is also important that Department Leaders be willing to cooperate with each other in order to further the goals of the nation.

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

I'd always prefer a talented deputy, regardless of how well we got on. The people should have good government, not a mutual appreciation society.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

Because I believe that I can do a good job of helping Fanatika to decide upon its aims, and ensuring that those aims are pursued without deviation.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?

I am only running for President :)

What victory would you prefer?

I like the idea of Conquest, or failing that, Domination. A Spaceship victory is also always satisfying, of course! :D

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

No. I do not like using our people as building material. I only ever support using the technique if the likely alternative is the loss of that city.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?

Iron Working is always a great boon, as it provides knowledge of the location of a resource that will be of great importance for a very long time to come.
Writing is invaluable, as embassies both improve the attitudes of our rivals, and provide us with a greater range of diplomatic options - some of which can be used to change the entire balance of power within the game.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

Emperor :)

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes, I do.

Right now, how much time of your day do you commit to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?

I keep an eye on the fora throughout most of the working day, and generally at least 2 hours in the evenings. Weekends vary, but I'm ususally able to find a couple of hours per day then too, and often much more.

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
I believe that the Turn Chats are essential for the game. I believe that the Chats should continue the way they are now.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
I am the current Military Deputy and have tremendous experience with Civ3 combat.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
I would name it Nar Shaddaa.

Are you familiar with all of our laws?
Yes, I am familiar with the laws.

Do you abide by them?
Yes, I abide by them.

Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demo game.
Me, Fail a math test? :D
If it did happen I would study harder.

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
I do not approve of this proposal. I think it would lead to bickering and confusion with too many governors running provinces that were too small.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
I have more experience in the field and attend most turn chats

What makes a good Department Leader?
A good department leader is someone who has experience in their department’s field and who has the patience to withstand criticisms and critiques in order to fully develop plans and ideas.

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?
This one is a tough question. I would go with someone who is good at the job, even though the Deputy might not get along with me.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?
I wish to organize the military strategy of Fanatika and apply the strategies and plans that I have acquired from many hours of Civ3 playing to the goals of the people of Fanatika.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
I am running for 1 position.

What victory would you prefer?
Possibly either domination or conquest.

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
I do not support population rushing. I would rather be in monarchy or republic and pay for the rush.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
Iron Working

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
Most of the time I play Emperor, But when I feel like a good challenge, I play Deity.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
I am very confident playing at the Emperor level

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes I have a working 1.29 version of Civ3.

Right now, how much time of your day do you commit to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?
I am on the Demogames practicly everyday, usualy in the afternoon-evening hours. Though I keep an eye on the forums from school when a class is using the computer labs or during Lunch. The hours would not change though

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
I think that Presidents should run on a platform of having public turn chats or playing the turns solo. This would let more people run for president and let the people decide the issue each term.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
As publisher of Die Fanatischen Zeiten I've followed our country's every move. I've stayed on top of citizen discussions in order to have a feel about the direction they want to go. I have excelent attention to detail and am very good at analyzing the intricate science paths and trades that are beginning to come up.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
Bremershaven

Are you familliar with all of our laws?
Yes. I was an active (and vocal) participant in many of the debates that led to the adoption of our constitution, Code of Laws and Code of Standards.

Do you abide by them?
I abide by them as best I can. I have been known to challenge what I thought were poor laws.

Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.
I can pass on this one because I graduated from college years ago. :)

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
I'm against redrawing provincial borders. We should use geographical features to help define our provincial borders. I am in favor of smaller provinces (5-7 cities each). I also think we should try to even out the corruption/waste among the provinces as best we can.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
I will open discussions and polls to determine a science queue that a majority of our citizens want and I will see that this citizens queue will be followed.

What makes a good Department Leader?
The ability to decipher what it is the citizens want. The wisdom to present all the options to the citizens. The guts to carry out the citizens' desires. These things make a good department leader.

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?
Trick question. If the deputy was good at the job then I'd get along with him or her. If for some strange reason I couldn't get along I'd still rather have a deputy that was good at the job.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?
To ensure that the people are offered all of the choices, to ensure the people's voice is heard at the FNSD, and to make sure that a proactive science strategy is formed from these citizen responses.

Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
I am running for the science leader position.

What victory would you prefer?
I think it is too early to begin thinking about victory conditions. For now we need to strive on survival and expansion. When we are well established we can begin looking at what victory we will strive for.

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
No. With proper planning and foresight this abominable practice should not be necessary.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
Iron working.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
I play all levels. I'm really good on cheiften. My skill deteriorates a little for each level I go up - until deity where I'm really lousy.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
I'm comfortable at this level in this game because I'm not alone.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes.

A bit (bit! ha! that's an undestatement!) late, but anyway. I'm running for Foreign Minister.

[*]A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
---- I don't favor closed sessions, but I do favour a few changes. I do not like it when they stop just beacuse a new civ or a potential trade is happening, the leaders who attend the turn chats along with the citizens that also attend should and are quite capable of reaching a decision. Other than that, they should remain as is.

[*]What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
---- 3 terms in office should sufice...3 terms..wow...

[*]If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
---- I already said Cuernavaca, but I've been thinking, maybe I should give a name that will go more with the whole german ethnic, northeastern european flair..Rohan maybe. (LotR fan, can you tell)

[*]Are you familliar with all of our laws?
----- We have laws?!! lol. Most of them, yes.

[*]Do you abide by them?
---- I try to. But if you dig deep enuf you might find a skeleton in my closet.. or two hahaha

[*]Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.
---Younger? I just turned 23, does this apply to me? If so, I'd choose a mix of the two.

[*]How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game? (formerly known as the "Provincial Growth Formula")
---- Depends on how we make it go about. When do we realize we should change the borders? I need a bit more info to make a decision on it.

[*]Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
---- Experience, commitment willingness to do the job and sincerity.

[*]What makes a good Department Leader?
---- read above :)

[*]Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?
--- Depends, if he/she is an ass, I prefer someone I know and can trust. It all comes down to that, trust. Raven1er was and is a great deputy, he opened up the FA page in my abscence and responded greatly, and I've never worked with him in the past.

[*]Why are you running for the department you are running for?
--- I love Foreign Affairs.

[*]Are you running for 2 positions? If so, which ones? If you win both positions, which would you take?
---- Nope, just this one.

[*]What victory would you prefer?
---- What ever the citizens decide.

[*]Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
----If the improvement is worth it, yes.

[*]What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
----Hmmmmm....I'd have to go with writting.

[*]What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
----- monarch.

[*]If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
---- sure! why not.

[*]Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
----- yes.

[*]Right now, how much time of your day do you committ to the Democracy Game? Would this amount change if you were elected?
---- About 2 hours on average. I think it would pretty much stay the same.

That's it! phew!
