Expanding the idea of armies and corps

So here's my idea: allow the play to form armies and corps with units of different types. For example, a corp with a swordsman and an archer. These hybrid units would have the stats and abilities of each composite unit. So a corp with a swordsman and an archer would have both a melee attack and a ranged attack.

I feel like this idea would make armies and corps more interesting, while also introducing "stacks" without breaking the 1upt model.

Any other ways, we can take the idea of armies and corps further?

An interesting idea. Sounds a lot like civ 4 but you can only have 3 units in one tile. I problem I could see with it is movement and promotions tree incompatibilities like does the ability to climb cliffs only apply to infantry or the whole stack. Does cavalry have 2 movement speed when mixed with infantry or to the infantry get 4 movement. Is the whole stack able to fortify or only the infantry. Does non cavalry units ignore zoc when moving?

Thanks for your response.

Yeah, you would definitely need to define some rules. In terms of promotion trees, a corp with a melee and a rangeg unit would have access to the promotions of both but the effects of the promotions would be slightly different. In terms of movement, I think it would realistic for the hybrid unit to take the movement of the slowest unit in it. But if you merged cavalry with a melee unit, the corp unit might get a "charge" ability (extra melee attack).
