From the article:

"Second, the Expansive trait now only grants a 25% bonus to worker production instead of 50%."

I didn't know that Expansive had that bonus to begin with.

And even if it did, I thought the Expansive trait was already considered one of the weaker ones because health doesn't really pose that much of an issue. No?

Was the bonus to Worker production really that powerful that it had to be reduced?

In vanilla I thought expansive was a week trait. Patched warlords (only version 2.08 has the fast wroker build) I found it very powerful because of the +50% worker build. With the quick workers/Graneries/Harbors +2 health you can get large cities quickly once you get Monarchy or pyramids. Did it get nerfed, not sure. The imperialistic/expansive Portugese may have been too strong with fast settlers and workers and had to be adjusted. I agree about changing the health to +3 (Yeah Washington!!!!).

Lads, "nerf" means what? Is this an american thing?

Similar to SNAFU or somehting?

In the US we have what's called Nerf Toys, which are basically made of foam. So a foam football is a Nerf Football. Or you can have a Nerf Gun that shoots foam arrows instead of real bullets.

So by replacing the real thing with something less harmful (i.e. foam instead of bullets or leather), you're 'nerfing' it.

I always heard the term nerf came from Ulitma Online where originally bows were supposedly grossly overpowered. They ended up being weakened to near uselessness and people complained they were shooting nerf arrows. Hence the term 'nerf'.

Quite possibly, interesting if true. But it's the same thing: you've replaced something potent with something flimsy.

I believe the term nerf originated when Ultima Online reduced the strength of swords in an online game and people started refering to them as Nerf swords. (Nerf is a brand in the US that sells foam swords, crossbows and other weapons/sports equipment). Hence...'They nerfed the swords", meaning the players felt they were now hitting with foam swords.

edit: Darn beaten to it, stll I found a source here

More like "To make something weaker than it was through changes".

It refers to Nerf(tm) toys, which are basically hard-sponge ball versions of things. E.g. A Nerf Football.

I don't know why the did that. >_>

I think the health should be restored to +3. I'll miss spamming workers when I draw an Exp civilization on Random.

I knew the meaning, but I didn't know it's origin.

Hmm, I always thought that term originated from Star Wars:
Unreliable but correct in this instance wikipedia said:
a "nerf herder" is a fictional occupation referred to by Princess Leia in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, when she insults Han Solo for arrogantly asserting that she has romantic feelings for him: "Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!" In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, a nerf herder is a lower class outdoorsman who spends his days safeguarding the nerfs on various planets across the universe. They can best be compared to the American cowboy or shepherds of old in their steadfast pursuit of an independent lifestyle. They generally wear old, worn out work clothes and carry simple projectile weapons as well as staves they use to drive obstinate nerfs out of their hiding places. Due to their significant skills in fieldcraft and gunplay, as well as not having the resources to bathe and change their clothes often, the rest of the "civilized" universe looks down upon them.

getting i little off topic dont u think

The imperialistic/expansive Portugese may have been too strong with fast settlers and workers and had to be adjusted

good point madscientist
this is true it may be to powerful with fast workers and settlers

but i think that people consider the exp trait weak anyway (i dont faster workers r cool)
y make it weaker
if they do I agree +1 on health, i rly dont want it to end up like that thou

Hmm, I always thought that term originated from Star Wars:

Except the Nerf brand originated in 1969, eight years before Star Wars and 11 years before Empire, where the phrase is from.

Besides, EU = teh suk, so any explanation that comes from EU is no explanation at all.

No sensitivity here.
Just trying to be amusing/ironic.
Sorry I misunderstood and missed.

What I'm worried about isn't the nerf on expansive, even though with the "No goody hut" option it will now be a useless trait, but the nerf on Spiritual. The no anarchy was it's biggest pull.

Now other people can get their special ability via a wonder? And what do THEY get for that wonder? It says they can build it twice as fast. Is this just to prevent someone else from stealing their fire? Rush out the useless wonder themselves?

I can understand marble/stone giving the same benefit as industrious, but those benefits STACK, how does no anarchy stack with itself? Do spirital civs with that wonder get a BONUS during the turns they otherwise would have anarchy?

Well, you still get the GPP bonus, so there's always that. But it's a late-game Tech (Radio), Spiritual still gets exclusive No Anarchy for 75% of the game. And only one other Civ in the game gets it, as it's a World Wonder.

Also consider that there's a tradeoff factor here: if a Civ builds it, that means they're not building something else ... and there's a lot of more worthwhile Wonders at that point in the game.
