[R&F] Failure to spawn with a custom civ

    Hello,

    i recently started to work around modding. Took a bit of time to familiarize with how modding work and now I started to make a new civ. (Using the template from mod buddy).

    I can launch a game with my custom civ but when the game start, i don't spawn. I can't play, I'm just a spectactor that watch the AI.

    I checked database.log. I got "

    [3528105.269] [Localization]: Input XML does not contain database entry tags. GameData, GameInfo or Database". However i don't see a GameData tag missing in my files.

    If anyone got an idea of what i did wrong, i'm all hear.

    I use <GameData> for all my xml: UpdataDatabase, UpdateIcons, and UpdateText. As I recall from a discord conversation with Saun from Firaxis he said that the game will accept either <GameData> or <GameInfo>, but I always use <GameData> because it is what I am used to from Cv5 and keeps things simpler. And I have never double-checked whether he was incorrect in regards text files always needing <GameData> rather than also accepting <GameInfo>.

    The error quoted from Database.log is a Firaxis error in one of their files, and started with as I recall RaF being released, and the pre-release patch to vanilla that went with it. You will not find this misake in any of your files unless of course you forgot to give the code "wraps" in one of your files. Since the patch that started it, I always get

    There's nothing that matches to the error timestamps you get in Database.log for this error in either of Localization.log or Modding.log, so without looking at every single Firaxis-supplied language localization file it's impossible to find which basegame file has the error. It's also possible this error is generated from a file we cannot "see" when searching through the game's base files. Unless you are getting multiple reports of a similar error every time you try to load your mod, you can safely ignore that error in Database.log: what Firaxis gets to do and what we modders get to do is often two different kettles of fish.

    What you linked to is not a mod, it is a modbuddy project from which you build a mod.

    That having been said, your definition of the leader will never succeed because before you even get there you have two unique constraint errors within the same file

    Thank you for your time. I corrige this mistakes. However i'm still facing the same problem.

    Looking into Modding.log. I only see my files of configuration. Could it be a problem with my in-game actions?

    1. File NewLeader_Config.xml does not belong in the InGame actions. This will cause an error message in the database.log file which is just unnecessary clutter. Remove that file from your list of files to be used as UpdateDatabase in the InGame actions.
    2. Since your code is all xml, any errors reported in Database.log should contain up to four error lines all with the same error time-stamp and usually the first and last of these will tell you the general type of error you have (such as a Unique Constraint error).
    3. For xml files the middle two error lines of a group will tell you what values you were attempting to add that were no good, and the filename where the error was encountered.
    4. XML files generate far more information regarding an error that occured than SQL files do in Database.log, which is one reason I usually advise new modders to use XML until they get more comfortable with the games systems, using modbuddy, and the like.
    5. Closely inspect all the Database.log error messages for any that refer to file names that would be in your mod, and if you cannot figure out what the error messages are telling you, upload a copy of the mod from the game's MODS folder rather than the project from the Modbuddy folder. This will make it easier for us to run your mod on our end to see what is wrong, especially since what you are describing are likely Database errors rather than art errors.
