I found the fall of Rome scenario a real nice change of pace for me. I typically play a builder/researcher style, so this game was a real challenge for me.

I started out as the Visigoths, and quickly conquered the Ostrogoths to the North of me for expansion space. I decided to focus on the Barbarism tree and built the Scourge of God in my main town. I then began mass-producing warlords in all my towns after 2 defenders and a temple were built in each.

The first city to fall was Constantinople, followed quickly by another 7 towns... Eastern Rome was in ruins... Western Rome fell to my warlords about 7 turns later. Even with relentless diplomacy involving gpt deals for alliances, after the 2 Roman empires fell, I was beset on 3 sides... The evil Huns, Vandals and the Franks. I had a military alliance with the Sassanids involving all 3. It was touch and go for quite a while.

At turn 121 I finally managed to destroy the last of my enemies... I had conquered East and West Rome, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Franks and the Huns as well as secured a fair number of victory locations. I won with 38,000 VP... and 30,900 points!! I had managed to get 5 Great Leaders as well.

I typically never fight long drawn out wars, and wait for overwhelming superiority before launching my strikes. In these games I usually am lucky to get a single MGL. I learned the value of the militaristic trait, and the benefits of early military action. When I play this scenario next time, I will not even bother to research after completing the barbarism path, nor build the Military academy... both were complete wastes of time.

Anyways... just excited about the game and the score... over 10,000 better than I have ever gotten

@Barker, You need to try Middle Ages as Viking Civ- Beserkers are nasty :viking: and alot of fun :D . The Napolean Scenario is also
non-stop war so it would also be a good change of pace for you :hammer: .
The WWII one is also good for practice with more modern warfare :soldier: .

some strategies I noticed are to put your capitol in the middle of the map, bribe your allies to attack rome, and use cash to upgrade your raiders to warlords.

I am not sure of some more basic points, like as Vandals, how many cities should I build before I switch my cities' production from Migrants over to Barracks, Walls, or Workers? Does it matter whether my cities are built to border Rome or not?

I'm overwhelmed by FALL OF ROME as Vandals on Regent with AI AGGRESSION at aggressive. :crazyeye:

I'm at turn 70 and have finally acquired about 8 extra warlords in position to attack Rome to my south, maybe 13 total, and just built the Scourge of God. The Persians demanded fortification technology for peace, but I rejected that, so they are at war. Their bases aren't near me, so I don't care. They got Franks to declare war on me and they have alot of warlords on my west side, and my warlords aren't on my west side, so I reloaded the game and paid Eastern Rome to declare war on Persia instead.

Problem is, how do I trick Rome into declaring war on me, now that I'm at peace with Franks?

I could try to fight Franks, but they wouldn't declare war on me either now. Should I just invade Rome and forget my reputation? With only 8 warlords, it's hard.

Oh, and the Anglo Saxons put cities in northern italy, so I can't get into italy without attacking them too, probably. Anglo-Saxons have surounded me on north side too, and I'm not ready to attack them and Rome at same time!
