I prefer a human drawn map to the sort of things that a computer randomly generates. This map is inspired by the land forms of East Asia and the Pacific, although it is not a direct copy from real earth landforms. There is a large continent where barbarians will fight against any settlement from the many civilizations starting on moderate-sized islands.
This is a Civilization IV Warlords scenario. I work on a Macintosh, so I just stopped a game at the 4,000 B.C. turn and constructed this map, and then saved it as a world builder format document. It's compressed in a zip file.
The Korean civilization starts in the middle of the massive continent, and must begin the game by fighting off barbarians. The Americans, Aztecs, and Celts start in relative isolation. The five civilizations start close to other civilizations, can engage in trade or war early in the game.
