As I like a good war, probably a bit too much, I've never really aimed for a fast spaceship right from the start of a game before, and with all the new late game stuff in BtS I thought it might be about time I tried. I'll probably try this on Monarch, maybe Emperor, Continents or Fractal and Normal speed.

I imagine all this has been asked before, but here it goes:

How many cities should I be aiming for (standard size)? As the SS, at least to me, appears to be limited far more by how quickly you can research than production would about 12-15 cities be enough? Now with the changes to the SS in BtS this might be different of course. Obviously having enough land to be fairly sure of getting Aluminium is important too.

What are the really major pre-Modern key techs to aim for, apart from Liberalism, Democracy (civics) and Assembly Line (factories) that can make a big difference? Levees give a nice production boost to river cities so Steam Power could be worth prioritising now.

Also, which techs in the Modern Age are worth beelining for? Fusion and Robotics for the GE and Space Elevator would seem to be useful, but are they worth it most of the time? With the changes to the tech tree in the Modern Age this might be quite different, but hopefully the principles are the same.

Without a focus on military I'm going to have to focus keeping the AI happy quite hard, so that should be good practice too.

I probably forgot something important, so if you have anything to add please do.

The national wonder which give water tiles +1h is good, this combined with being dutch could make a coastal city quite good production. Court houses are great for the spy points, which are best used, imo, to see inside the enemies cities at no loss of points.

Speaking of fast spaceships...

You know what would be cool? If other civs could launch after the first one, but with a higher tech and therefore faster ship. Thus the "Space Race Victory" would have a timer on it which would be shorter the more tech you have, and the first one to have the timer run out wins...

@AThousandYoung

Thats how it works w/ BTS. the more parts you put into your spaceship the faster it gets there. However, you only need a minimum to launch. Heck you could launch w/out the minimum but it might fail
