Faster progression?

I've been noticing this lately, and it's kind of ruining the game for me. It's the speed of... everything. I started up a new game just recently in ancinet era, was playing along, and after about only an hour and a half, I look up and it's already frickin' 1500 A.D. I've played both Civ II and III, and I don't remeber either of them going this fast. Even on Epic era, the time just flys by. Is anybody else noticing this? Anybody else not liking it? Any way to make the game slower?

Yes and yes. The instructions might appear a bit intimidating, but once you get used to it, it's easy to fiddle with the various settings until you find a balance you like.
