Do you really need **TWO** Favorite Civ polls?

YEAH, that's what I SAID.
For some reason people just ignored that post.

Also, for some reason the other poll (with 16 options) has the French coming out in the lead by a pretty wide margin, while here the "Greeks/Romans" and "Germans" are leading.

Nobody vote here anymore! Go vote for the Russians in the other poll! The damn frogs are leading, everyone go vote them down!

Can this poll be locked???

I vote for Romans/Greeks, but if a had a choise, would be just in the Greeks.. .

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, über alles un zie velt. Deutschland ist sehr gout, Ja? Militaristic unt Scientific!

The Russians. And don't call me a chauvinistic-racist-nationalistic-bloody swine. It's just great )))) I regret cossacks were chosen as a special unit, not MIG or SS-300 ((((
But after that i'll play for the Greeks, Americans and Germans, though i respest all of the nations available...so far )

I picked the Japanese. Military and Religious gives them a huge headstart in the early game of establishing barracks and temples everywhere. Fast promotion for units and no anarchy give them a fine edge in the middle game; the samurai is an awesome unit, with which I have defeated tanks, cavalry, you name it. Egyptians are a close second, since Industrious is so kickass.

I think the french will get my vote, a little slow early but in a modern civ industry and commerce really kicks but.:frog:

My top two choices have been to this point, the Egyptians & the Japanese. I thoroughly enjoy the Religious bonuses that help to establish the opening game in both of those Civs :D --- just hate anarchy... it's such a pain to lose production during those lost turns :( . Anything else in addition is just icing; but that's just me.

Thus far I'd have to pick the Chinese and the Indians, although in my current game I am trying the Egyptians. The Chinese have Industriousness and Riders--a unit that, if timed right, can *clean house* for you during the Middle Ages. I wiped the Japanese out with my galloping hordes. The Indians' lack of anarchy during government changes is very good, and the extra money from commercialism is nice also, but their best attribute is the war elephants. They exacted great vengeance on my foes after I spread rumors among the barracks that foreign nations were all dealing knee-deep in ivory. Babar and Dumbo would have been proud.

My first priority is science, with military power following closely behind, so my choice is naturally Germany. I do prefer to call it Prussia, however, because Prussia has a much longer history than any united Germany, and its military record was, shall we say, more honourable (for instance, central to defeating a great tyrant verus creating one). The Panzer is also an excellent special unit.

It would be fun to play as England too, but I don´t think the bonuses are very good, and in my experience the Man-O-War is almost immediately followed by ironclads, which are better, and available to all civs. Has anyone found this unit to be any good?

On the whole, I don´t much like playing with civs that weren´t historically significant, which puts a few of them beyond consideration.

I guess I'll go for either the Russians or the Chinese, I guess you guys know why. Right, Communism!

DIE AMERICANS DIE!!!!!! STUPID SUSPICIPOUS ARZES!!!!!!! :)

The French do it for me.
Civs all about shields, coins and bulbs. The French have the most of both.

Plus having worker work twice as quick is almost broken.

Yes, the attributes are unbalanced: industrious is too good, while expansionistic is worthless. Also, since all research is lost when changing the goal (e.g. when buying a tech. from another civ), and trading technologies is so easy, scientific isn´t as good as I had expected (or as good as in Civ2). It´s very difficult to open a technology gap on the higher levels, so scientific is really only good for the cultural bonuses (and religious is good for that too).

Expansionistic civs should be the ones with the faster settlers, and also with the lower corruption for large empires. Firaxis should have tested the balance of the attributes more. Only an idiot would think expansionistic is as good as industrious.

Industrious is the essential attribute for a good civ, because of the poor balance, so any civ without it falls out of the list. Maybe industrious + religious is the best of all, because of the reduced anarchy. In a recent game, the cultural loss created by a single revolution (8 turns of anarchy!) took at least 40 turns for me to recover, and losing 50 turns of culture for switching from monarchy to democracy is stupid.

>>It is broken!

I was just being polite; it was my first post here.

>>while expansionistic is worthless.

On a small island map totally worthless. On one large land mass playable but need to be lucky with getting settlers. Tech advantages pretty much worthless early on. In fact at the start its probably best to play 0% science.

>>+ religious is the best of all

Good point about religious. I think religious pretty much dominates scientific. Temples are cheaper then libraries. Libraries have higher culture, which means you get your first growth one earlier after building. But at one shield a turn temples are nine turn earlier, plus they are usually more useful once build.

Twelve to Sixteen turns production (plus added flexibility) has to be worth more than the tech advantages science gives.

Plus after the patch corruption not so big a problem. Haven't tried playing a religious tribe yet. (Russians, Greek, Romans and French)

The civs I have enjoyed the most are:

The Babylonians, Japanese, and Iroquois.

Not necessarily in that order..but im my mind I think the religous civs are the best.

I have to pick the Romans. I don't like having to invest in Chivalry just to use my special unit, and the inherent characteristics of the Romans fit my playing style perfectly.
