The Hittites are also fun. I had a game where the closest iron was in the Celtic core. The Celts built the TOA. I had to use entirely three-man chariots (and the help of Germany and the Netherlands) to get through MI's and pikemen, than had to wipe them out to stop flipping. Three-Man Chariots saved my life that game.

The Vikings are definitely the funnest(is that a word?) civ to play. It's probably the civ that plays closest to the real life counterpart. Your early expansion is difficult, but if you can over come that and build 10 berserks or so, backed up by pikes or musketmen, all fear you. They can dominate my favorite map type, archipelago, and even if you're a little behind in tech it doesn't matter because berserks last the whole age. They aren't truly outclassed until infantry which the AI takes its time to get.

i absolutely love the persians and they're early game "Immortal" it allows me to wipe every one clean without breaking a sweat ^^

yeah id have to agree the Persians have the strongest offensive unit in the ancient times. i being a warmonger myself. and their workers build roads and whatnot faster. my close second would have to be the romans for their legions of course.

I have to say the Otts, since I have had some fun times with them. I was a weaker civ, and had just gotten Siphai, then Carthage attacked, who happened to be #2 on the Continent, after the Babs, who I had just finished fighting for a strategic piece of land. Anyway, Carthage swept over the edge of the empire, but soon they were destroyed by my massive blitz of Siphai, (no arty, before I realized it's value, and I found cannons to be the most worthless of all)

I really like the traits of the French. Very productive and the capability for tons of wealth.

That being said I'm playing a game with the Iroquois right now and the religious trait is pretty awesome. It's great to run as a democracy, then when going to war switching to Communism without 5 turns of anarchy.

I'm a total Persophiliac, too. I used to do the Russians, but the Persians really trump everything for an early game lead. Never liked the Germans, probably because their UU comes too late in the game. I hate late-game wars, cause they go nuke toward the end and nukes scare me.

It's quite a tribute to Civ3 as a balanced game that the results of this poll are so spread out. Six different civs got three or more votes here (tho significantly the Persians got the highest by far).

Nukes are awesome. But only when you are the aggressor. And as far as them scaring you...

Spoiler :
Relax Bucky, it's just a game. :p

The Hittites of course! The Persians and the Byzantines are competing for second place.
However my choices does not reflect which civ I find the strongest. The connection is made purely on atmosphere, good memories and the fact that these cultures have always fascinated me. Not in the game, but in reality.

Greeks. They've good traits, and Hoplites are sturdy defenders. In addition, I'm a student of classical Greek philosophy and am fond of the general classical culture.

I rather like playing as Egypt but as far as I am concerned they do not have a UU. I never purposely build a WC in my game. Once in a while the governor sneaks one past me and I kill it immediately.

I voted persians because I really love them for warlord - monarch games, but I find iroquois, french, and maya excel in the higher difficulties and are really fun empire builders.
