confucianism: Why? Because it spreads to just about all your cities fast if they have no religion, especially if founded late (as in AD times)

My .02

Judiamism, It always seems to spread the most (unless one of the fanatical civs like Saladin get ahold of a religion).

Isn't there a varyable in the xml that is different from relgion to religion?

Religion can be used to promote diplomacy or incite riots. Every situation is differnt so it is hard to answer the poll. For some reason Judaism seems to spread farther out than the others, I don't know why.

I usually get two of the three early ones but I don't adopt any right away. I wait to see what the neighbors are doing. (*and because I can't afford the anarchy just yet). Hopefully I have just one neighbor that is a warlord and i'll adopt whatever that turns out to be. This approach just buys me time early on so I don't get my butt kicked before I can get a decent start.

Later on I jack around with religion to get the AI to invade me. (along with arrogant demands) Works a good part of the time.

I hope this helps

I go for Taoism becuase it provides Pacifism and I usually make a lot of specialists/GP. I get meditation, priesthood, then build oracle while I research drama. If I time it right, I found Taoism before Judaism is founded, and get a missionary to take it to my capital or GP farm.

In most of my games typically three religions have a significant following: Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism. The others are at best adopted only by the founders (who then are naturally hated by others), and Islam rarely spreads over 2% of the population...

I'm not going to say WHICH religion...

but whenever I found THAT religion, why don't I get 25% more gold? :-(

People who say such things are ignorant and/or racist.

All the religions benefits are exactly the same. :)

Communism is a "religion?" In what sense?

in the sence that people like to own stuff.... and believeing that someone who doesn't want to own stuff wants to take care of you takes alot of faith :)

[Laughs . . . shakes head]

Anyhoo . . .

For some reason I usually end up founding Confucianism.

But really I go with whatever religion pops into my empire first so I can have good relations with my neighbor. Then I try to capture the Holy City after the shrine is built.

It's amusing to be at war with someone and still have a positive diplo score from the brothers in faith bonus.

I can't tell if thats a compliment or sarcasm  :crazyeye:

I'll second that remark. It's a compliment. Every religion basically does the same. The only effect a religion has in a particular game is that it can bring you closer together (when it's the same) or drive you apart (when it's 'heathen'). You avoid war when you pick the same religion as your (strongest) opponents.

I picked Buddhism and Hinduism as best religions myself though, since they are the first religions you can found yourself (when you are spiritual or are lucky enough not to start against civs starting with mysticism). Because of this, you own the holy city and can spread your religion to enemy cities when they haven't converted to a religion yet. Having civs convert to later religions you founded is usually quite a task.

I dont have a favourite religion, but i always seem to end up with Judaism or Confucianism. I usualy end up with a late Islam or Christianity too.

There all the same in the game so I dont really care. The early ones might spread quickly, but a couple of Missionaries can soon sort that out.

Buddhism - Its great to have your religion/holy city early.

Confucianism - Easy to get in the tech tree if you want it. Also comes in as a bonus to courthouses.

Christianity - Same as Confucianism as far as easy to get. Also, with it comes the ability to build the sistyne chapel. Which I am a sucker for +artist GP points.

I would have voted for Hinduism as it holds the same values as Christianity does for me but I am not that fond of the relgion's notice sound.

I usually end up with Confucianism since the early ones (hin & bud) are already taken by the AI most of the time and Monotheism is a 'death end' tech (since I usually go for Pacifism over Organized Religion).

Confucianism always seems to be right 'on the way' to Civil Service, and usually arrives around the time I want a religion.

Then again if your 'friendly' neighbours are all Buddist, think twice before deciding you won't follow their believes. That Buddha can be one aggressive ****

Confucias Say: "He who does not start with Mysticism will more then likely end up with this Religeon".

Normally I miss out on those along the usual religeon tree yet I mannage to pick up either Taoism or Confuciasism fairly easily. 20 missionaries later...
