custom continents, as it allows for balanced resources

what sense does it make for a civ to have a UU that requires a certain resource, yet not have access to that resource? I mean maybee rome would have developed bad ass archers instead of swordman if they didnt have such ready access to iron, makes no sense imo.

I continents also because I sincerly doubt we would have things like aircraft carriers in a world with a single landmass, maybee not.

Likewise I doubt we would have tanks in a archipelgro world, in this world the navy units would be more advanced, likewise in a pangea world the land units would be.

Geography and resources played a huge role in the development of technology.

I actually think the pursuit of strategic resources is one of the most entertaining challenges of the game, so for me, enabling balanced resources eliminates a lot of fun.

No aluminum or oil in one of my current game... Luckily lots of great people and high tech, so I'm actually getting the resources from Standard Ethanol and Aluminum Co. Been a hoot, rather than having it handed to you. What is kind of annoying to me is that I have two friends (actual friendly friends) who have excess of each resource and they are unwilling to trade them to me. Are Monty and Ragnar supposed to be total tightwads when they're friendly with you? Happens to me so rarely I'm really not sure.

Archipelago large size snaky continents

gets some pretty interesting maps its almost always very different something i really like about fractal however with fractal you get 1 giant continent sometimes which i hate.

i also like playing as the dutch so knowing i can build levees in just about every city is also a bonus. the one minus about this map is you need to protect every city as they can be attacked from the water (its rare to have a lot of inland cities on this map )

I also like this map because it adds value to having ships ...but theres enough land that you get decent land battles without having to build massive armies. if you control the skies and naval you can pound down enemies so that your army doesnt have to be 500 units.
