What do you think about Square's venture into the world of massively multiplayer online gaming with Final Fantasy XI? If it succeeds, then FF XI will be the first such game for the consoles. But if it fails, then FF XI could be the real final fantasy... the end of the FF franchise! :(

Personally I think it's a bad move because FF games are always known for its storylines and amazing cutscenes. You lose both when a game goes online.

Consider: what would the gaming industry be without risks?
I don't know much about FFXI. Is it a "Traditional" FF? Either way, plot doesn't HAVE to suffer with online gaming. Also, several consoles have had online services. The Famicom (NES) in Japan, and the XBand modem for the SNES. Neither were too successful, though.

I've heard that the Game REALLY stinks (FF XI that is). And it will be bought and played anyhow, I can feel it... but not by me.

I will be playing Star Wars: Galaxies (Be free to join me TF).

The Fact that the game is gonna stink will not hinder others, I think. Square won't do a new Online game in a while though... We all know how persistent they are, if one thing fails they won't give it another go. (Take Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within for example)

There will still be Offline Final Fantasy games if FFXI fails. FFXII is already under production. And Square has copyright on the names FF XIII, FF XIV and FF XV.

And as Square Soft has been known for, will FFXII probably be the last Final Fantasy Game on PS2. The next 3 games (if they are made), will probably be on another console. (First 3 games on NES, 4-6 on SNES, 7-9 on PSX, 10-12 on PS2)

Well, I hope FFXI will be a good game, but it doesn't seem like it...

Personally Instead of possible ruining the series by calling it FF XI they should of called it Final Fantasy Online.
they should of kept the Series of FF's and there Online Attempt seperate.

Good point VC.....
And look to Might and Magic. The last few games have been horrible but they keep pumping them out because there are fans that will buy anything with that name on it. I am not talking about the HoMM series, but the original RPG series of M&M.

FFX was a big flop. The game had more cinema's and talking scene's than actually playing.
I can't waitto find my freakin N64 so i can finally finish the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask :) can't go wrong with Zelda :D

Is there an actual QUEST in 11? Or do you just level up forever? One day come home from work to play and some punk kid who plays all day whacks you? It will do 'not so good'... I have no interest personally in playing it.

FF11 will be a very poor game, but people will buy it anyway. FF will not die, but the old veterans (us!) will retire for good. I know I will. :(

I have to disagree. A lot of people will buy FF11, a lot of people won't. I will not look at 11 but I will definitely be looking forward to FF12 - FF29 or whatever. I'm sure plenty feel the way I do. FF for me has always been a game I could get into for hours on end by MYSELF. Some games are so fun with one or more friends, Super Mario Kart for instance, but the FF series has always been that 'loner' game. Unless the future games really bite, I will continue to buy because Squaresoft puts out the best RPG's period.
