Well, I've been away from Civ for awhile, and have decided that now that we have some relatively stable patch for C3C, it's time to get back into an SG...with a bang!

The idea is thus: To lay the beats down on all the civs that have pissed us off severely in recent games. Just from following SG's, two top rivals I can think of to start are Russia and Iroquois.

Once the roster is full, we will vote on our 7 rivals, the 7 with the most votes will win (but I'm pretty certain Iroquois and/or Russia will be in there!)

Our civ can be decided as well, but the following parameters I'd like to set:

Difficulty: Deity
Map size: standard
Victory Conditions: ONLY CONQUEST enabled!!!

Guff: During the early, early growth of our civ (say, to 10AD), we can give in or not to demands. After that, we must take no guff, and we must not allow any AIs to dally in our lands for more than what is obviously them passing through. Non-combat units such as workers, settlers, scouts shall be allowed through...but since they'll be guarding all settlers with military... :)

War: At the following key junctures of technology, we must go to war.

Upon researching Military Tradition, we must within 10 turns declare war on one (or more) civs, and make a major offensive against them ('major offensive' to be judged by common sense, and the group)

Upon researching Motorized Transport, we must within 10 turns make another major offensive against one or more civs.

We can still make war at any other time if we see fit...

For this one, I'd like to request that the players have some serious experience at major warfare on at least Demigod difficulty, as we'll be doing a ton of fighting.

Roster will be six spots, as I'm a bit of a busy person I need to ensure I get at least 3-4 days before the game comes back to me. Standard 24 hrs to post got it, up to 48 additional to post your turns or a partial turn-status.

C'mon all, let's lay down the smack!

Standard RBCiv tactics & rules apply...

We can feel free to be dastardly, but please before making any major dastardly moves like violating peace treaty, breaking an alliance, or declaring war with active deals, consult with the group.

See the RBCiv page at http://realmsbeyond.net/civ for any clarification on prohibited tactics.

You've got a couple rules loopholes there, falsfire :)

1. You need some compulsion to actually get Military Tradition, else we can just ignore the tech forever if we're not ready for war.

2. must not allow any AIs to dally in our lands for more than what is obviously them passing through.

There are only two reasons the AI enters your lands - either they're passing through to a chosen destination, or they're sneak attacking. I appreciate the idea - to have a "no doormats" rule without leading to Defiant Nationalist style pile-on - but you need better than this. I don't have a good idea of where exactly to write the rule, though.

This isn't a signup, but if you don't have a full roster of players within a few days, I'll join in.

Yeah, I've been thinking about the rules a touch. Some clarifications are in order:

If the AI has a stack of units in our territory that is either:
a) Within one-turn attack range of one of our cities
b) Has spent the last two turns moving straight toward one of our cities
c) Just landed off a boat right next to one of our cities

In such a situation, if the AI lands a stack right next to a city, and for some reason the game will not let you demand they leave or declare war (this has happened to me, when it is darn clear they are going to attack), we can take the initiative by declaring on them to destroy their stack. Again, if this is going to break any active trade deals/treaties/alliances, consult the group first unless you're sure you can backup your decision with solid reasoning.

Stack can be as little as 2-3 ancient units, whatever is clearly not a scout party passing through. If any doubt is in mind, player(s) can post a screenshot and ask for the group's input. The idea is not to have a hard-set literal rule, but just a "don't tread on me" mindset in this game.

Clarification on the MilTrad rule:
If we still have not learned Military Tradition by the time we have learned our first Industrial tech (doesn't matter if it's Nationalism, Steam Power, or Medicine), we must make it the next tech we research or buy. If we research, it must be at the best break-even pace available, and keeping in mind that we have 10-turns to go to war after it is learned.

The Military Tradition and Motorized Transport rules are both set as "within 10 turns", because, being Deity, I don't want to force us to suddenly go to war when we're out of position, not prepared, etc. We may see a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to learn one of these techs, and I don't want us forced to either pass-up the opportunity, or go to war unprepared.

These rules were thought up with the mindset of "we want to keep our conquering growth curve growing" to achieve conquest in a decent time, so we don't turtle up and wait til Modern Armour.

And, some clarity should be given on the "major offensive" that we must do. (this is open for discussion prior to starting the game)

Major Offensive action:

a) Capture/Raze 5+ fringe/border cities
b) Capture/Raze 2+ core cities
c) Capture/Raze a wonder city
d) Destroy a significant (10%-20%) chunk of the AI's "Power" on the graph, either by city razing/capturing, or by slaughtering units
e) Capture and take control of a resource/luxury (within reason, capturing one fringe city to take another furs when we already have 3 won't count as a 'major' offensive action)

Let's also set a 'benchmark' of finishing the game by conquest prior to 2000AD. We'll shoot for as early as possible, but again, I just want to prevent the team from turtling up.

Plus, a couple additional new rules:

1) No RoP's unless it is by our decision, and is distinctively to our advantage in waging war on a 3rd party. No long-term RoP's, make it, use it, when we're done with it we end it.

2) No MPP's, EVER. We hate *all* of our foes equally, we don't need their help and we don't help them vs. their short-term foes.

3) Keep in mind the MilTrad and Mot Trnsp tech rules, if we're nearing learning one, be careful of who you initiate and/or renew deals for lux / gpt with, if they're likely to be our target (by group discussion), we don't want any active deals with them when war arrives.

Any/all finalized rules will be compiled into one post before the game starts, so nobody gets too confused.

I play demi-god on C3C and emporer on PTW but have beaten diety once out of the 2 times I have played it. It is a lot of work MM'ing lots of cities and I enjoy it more this way. However in my SG's I look over all cities every turn for the team. I would love to play this and have been warring lots. I'm on GOTM24 redux (big war). Nehru Monarch AW, and I'm just finishing the Shaka the jealous challenge quite handily.
Civs I hate to see on my radar are of course the Iro's. Along with them Persia and that damn Cleo. Maya have been on my nerves lately too. May they all perish.
I would like to play the Ottomans. Haven't done any killing with Siphali yet and they kick butt. Ind and Sci isn't bad either.

Okay, barbslinger. You're on the roster. Just be wary, winning on Deity a couple times is good and all, but this will be rough because we'll be warring alot. On Deity, with the AI discounts, that means we need to be very conscious of preserving units/shields, which means knowing all the tactics of using fast vs. slow attackers, when to use vets/elites, when and where to use an army, sticking to high ground and luring the AI onto low ground, etc.

We'll wait til we have our six and have voted for our enemies before we choose who we are.

Not alot of interest in another warmongering SG? I'll give this til early next week, if I can't fill the roster then I'm afraid I'll have to close it :(

I thought there would be a stampede wanting to get at the most hated rivals in this occillating type warring. It would really be a blast. Well, perhaps some others will still join.

this thread and this game are now closed, with the idea to perhaps be re-assessed at a future date.
