FfH Roleplaying Game Saturday!!

Clan and Doviello can't build libraries, can they? Therefore they should never be able to get the Great Library, except through war.

I'll see if I remember to show up. Doubtful considering its 10am and I already have a beer.

How active is IRC during gameplay? Might need a half decent machine to deal with the constant Alt-tabbing. On a side note, is there a min spec for machines in this game, to keep turn times down and whatnot?

Also, whats the haps with Hybbie and Bazza? They banned outright or just no switching to them to save OOS issues?

Hybe and Bass are in, it's no biggie to rehost if everyone knows that there's going to be an OOS. We usually don't use IRC to chat at all while we play, we just use the built in chat. Off-topic is written with "//" first (as in, RP chat would look "like this" while offtopic looks "//like this").

And yeah, i had forgotten about Dov/Clan not being able to build libraries. GL is a pretty open wonder then i guess, since it has no lore and practically every civ uses libraries. Even the Hippus should be able to build it, i guess.

Personally I'd build any wonder, except the favorite wonder of a leader in the game. That, I'd give the leader a chance to build himself.

We've had people asking permission from other players to build this wonder or found that religion. I appreciated the sentiment, but I felt that if you have to ask permission, it takes something away from the game.

After last week's game with Hyborem, the players remaining at the end (Chris, Phil da Dill, airforceWLF, and me) concurred that he's usually going to be too strong for it to be fun for a human to play him.

I'll add another suggestion that I think is helpful for RP style games:
If a civ is losing and down to one or a couple cities, vassalizing to a winning civ (whether it actually uses the vassal mechanism or not) can be a fun way to keep the player in the game.

Does MP allow human vassals? The HOTK mod allows human vassals in SP, so its certainly possible.

Personally, I don't see the "favourite wonder" thing as anything else than a diplomacy bonus mechanic for SP games. As in the leader will like you if you've built that wonder instead of him.
Many of them aren't that clear cut as reserved to this or that leader, and a lot are shared by several leaders.

I mean, why would the Amurites and Sheaims *ever* leave the Catacomb Libralus to Thessa??

Yeah, you can pretty much figure out the rest now. About religions, we haven't really worked that out properly yet. Should some obvious synergies be allowed (Svarts+Fellowship, Calabim+Order) even though they may be a bit off, RP-wise? Well, we'll sort that out as the issue comes up.
I wouldn't call Svarts/FoL 'off' by a long shot. It makes perfect sense to me. Just because a civilization is predispositioned towards a certain religion (in this case Esus) doesn't make it nonsensical to be something else (Bannor/Ashen Veil, I'd call that nonsensical unless someone makes a compelling argument).

The Svartalfar are still fully elven, they still run around the forests frolicking and hugging trees.

Not really. Faeryl actually told her people that they shouldn't worship a dead god anymore. We had this discussion when i played Svarts once, and founded FoL. And yes, ljos was also in that game, so i can see how it doesn't work out.

I'm still for Svartalfar+FoL though.

Also, here we go http://erebus-chat.tk/

Actually, I'm pretty sure they can build the wonder without needing the prereq building.

Crown of Akharien: Civs with a lot of magic and SCIENCE (should depend on the current game. If for example the Illians are tech leaders, i see no reason why they shouldn't build it)
Great Library: Non-barbaric/warmongering civs (=no orcs, doviello, hippus etc)

What's the difference between the crown and the GL? And how is being a tech leader enough Role Play to suddenly make you the civ that fashions the crown?

Why is it some civs get the "obvious" wonders, while others are fair game for all?

and why would some civs want to build other civs favored wonder, unless they cared more about winning and less about Role Play?

Why is it the Great Library supposed to be excluded only from Barbarian civs? Its not like the Luichirp, or Perpentach, or the Svartalfar place knowledge in the highest regard, the way the Sidar or Amurites do.

In the case of obvious wonders - the Civ with which the wonder is known gets first chance to build (Ex. Heron Throne)

How about only chance. Why should a civ have to build a wonder early. Is Role play supposed to be about rushing to be the first to build a wonder in character, or is it supposed to be more about being in character?

How'd it go? or still goin on? Or am i just hallucinating that its saturday and really its just late friday night?

I got killed by a polar bear with heroic strength. I suspect it to be the works of the foul Vampires, but i can't be sure.

The last thing i heard from them was that someone summoned hyborem and switched. Still going, five hours strong now.

The fact that it's name was "Sidar's Bane" confused me a bit. Maybe the AI is more intelligent than we thought!

I was under the impression that the old god of nature had been replaced by whatshisname? I.e. not a dead god. The "founding" of the FoL would be the discovery of this "fact".

I don't know the lore enough, and is willing to take what you say at face value, I could just swear that I saw that mentioned somewhere.

Oh snap!

FoL is worship of the dead god/angel Sucellus. His succeedor is actually Basium, iirc.
According to the manual, they worship Cernunnos, with Sucellus being only being mentioned in passing as "[...] followers of the FoL do not rely upon revelation from Sucellus or Cernunnos [...]". Knowing that Sucellus is dead, this makes me interpret it as Sucellus being the founder (and gave no revelations) and Cernunnos taking over his mantle (not giving revelations either), not Basium.

And unless I really missed something, Cernunnos is very much alive. It's all hard (but interesting) when all snippets of lore are so spread out and being all.. well.. snippets.
