FfH Roleplaying Game Saturday!!

The Fellowship of the Leaves worship Nature itself more than any deity associated with it, but they do revere several gods. Cernunnos, Sucellus, and Amathoan are the most revered, but Nantosuelta and Arawn are too. Druids are the priests of Sucellus.

Sucellus was the God of Nature before he was slain by Mulcarn at the start of the Age of Ice and Cernunnos was his Archangel. After being slain, Sucellus's soul went to the Netherworld, where he helped Arawn the god of Life and Death deal with the massive influx of the souls of those who perished during the Fire Rain of Bhall's fall and then the bitter cold of the eternal winter.

Originally Arawn was only the God of Death, but when Nemed gave up his godhood in order to be the father of humanity (and the other intelligent races descended from humanity) he gifted his precept to Arawn. At the start of the Godswar, all the gods but Agares created angels and beasts to help them, and set up the first of their angels as the Archangel of their sphere. Sucellus created Cernunnos, who was the strongest of all the Archangels. As Arawn had 2 spheres, he first created the Twins, Basium and Gyra. Basium presided over the sphere of Life and Gyra over Death.

Sucellus and Arawn themselves were among the least active gods in the Godswar, but the same cannot be said of their Archangels. Cernunnos (in order to try to save his favorite son) was the only angel to ever challenge Agares himself in his hell. He landed one powerful blow that broke Agares breastplate, but in the end it was a great loss as it led to his corrupted reflection being used to create Hyborem and it also dragged Sucellus into the Godswar. When the Compact demanded that the good and evil gods and their angels and demons stop fighting each other directly, Basium chose to fall, leaving the service of Arawn in order to continue fighting demons.

During the Age of Magic Arawn grew disgusted at the creations of evil mages using Life and especially Death magic, so he chose to withdraw to the netherworld entirely so as to prevent his essence from being channeled. Death magic remained impossible until Tuoni stole the Gem of Death, from which all death mana in Erebus is channeled. Life magic was unavailable until the return of Sucellus.

While helping Awarn in the Netherworld, Sucellus constantly petitioned him for resurrection. This required the use of Life magic, and Arawn was still not willing to get involved. After the death of Mulcarn to Kylorin and the Godslayer, Sucellus finally convinced Arawn. Arawn would still not get involved himself, but he agreed to gift his precept of Life to Sucellus, who had convinced him that the power of this sphere would be needed for Creation to recover from the long Winter of Mulcarn's rule. The seven parts of Sucellus's body were reassembled and Sucellus rose again, now as the God of Life. He did not feel that he could properly fulfill this both this role and his old role as the God of Nature, and feared that the precepts would become corrupted if he tried, so he decided to gift his old precept to his old Archangel, Cernunnos, who has been living with the Ljosalfar while his God was dead. As such, Cernunnos is now the God of Nature, but he s by far the weakest of the gods as he was not created by The One and he does not have an Archangel serving him.

Basium hates Sucellus. Basium had long been begging Arawn for the precept of Life, as it would greatly aid his battle against the demons. While he may not have minded Cernunnos's ascension, he could not stand to see the power that should have been his wasted on the god of dandelions who only noteworthy military exploit was failing where a flesh puppet later succeeded. The other gods, however, have come to greatly respect Sucellus, for they see Nemed in him and have long respected Nemed for the sacrifice none of them had been willing to make. As such, Sucellus is welcome in every vault, and can freely enter even Nyx without a fight.

There we go. I knew that if I just carried along for a while, Cultuum would show up and set everything straight! :D
Edit: I want to add how much I appreciate these stories of yours, Cultuum. They really help me get an idea of the lore a lot better than any of the small snippets, and I enjoy reading your posts a lot. Again, thanks.

I think this pretty much settled the "dead god"-thing, as well as who is the 'primary' god of the Fellowship, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd say that Svartalfar easily fits the bill for Fellowship of Leaves - even if the argument can be made that Council of Esus does it more so. But a certain amount of leeway must be given in the spirit of roleplaying, no? :)

As far as game mechanics go FoL works great for the Svartalfar, but thematically it is quite odd. The civil war was over Faeryl outlawing the worship of Sucellus, who is still revered by the Fellowship even if Cernunnos is revered more. Cernunnos also lived with and led the Ljosalfar personally during the Age of Ice, when they were technically still at war. While pretending to follow these gods would fit the Svartalfar well, actually following them goes against everything the dark elves stand for.

Yes, Basium was Archangel of Life and Gyra Death. The death sphere isn't particularly violent, but passive. It is not in and of itself something that should be feared. Basium guarded the passages that souls take leaving the netherworld, which is why he is able to sneak the souls of mortals who become his angels back out. Gyra guards the passages souls used when they entered the Netherworld, comforting them and leading them to their place of rest (although she didn't guard one of the wells very well, as Tebryn managed to close it off before she could stop him, creating the Dead Lands). Death is basically an eternal sleep while waiting for the return of the One. It is by its nature very passive. Death is rest for those who have given up, while Life is a struggle for those willing to fight on. As such, the highly active Basium fits the Life sphere quite well.

On the other hand, FoL is clearly described as being extremely diverse, since there's no actual mandates by any particular god. Reverance is not the same as actual worship, after all. And at the time of Faeryl's illegalization of the worship of Sucellus, he was actually dead - not so anymore.

As far as I've come to understand it, the Fellowship of Leaves is not the same religion as the one the elves used to follow, but a new religion, founded around the same basic principles of nature, rather than the worship of a particular diety (formerly Sucellus).

In the case of the Ljosalfar, I'm sure that it's almost interchangable with the old religion to the point where they would consider it the same, whilst a Svartalfar could easily stress the differences (from their point of view) - and the Lanun, unaware of this conflict or the hypothetical 'old' religion would follow it out of an equally different set of ideals or reasonings.

It wouldn't be a "new" religion, but an evolution of the old into something different. The sphere of Nature is, after all, the sphere of evolution, growth, and maturation. There sphere would not tolerate either stasis or a sudden revolutionary change in its precepts. (Both Mulcarn and Bhall would be enemies of the sphere.)

Well of course, that sounds like the argument the Ljosalfar would make. ;)

How active is Succelus in the Conflict, after his resurrection? and does Ceridwen allow him into her realm? (IIRC, he might not be able to find his way around)

Hey.

I'm new here. Julius, Azrhal, Kyro and me just finished my first MP game, and it was fun. Quite epic good vs evil thing. It would've been even better with more people. Let's hope more of you join us next saturday. I did better than I expected, so eveything was fine.

I really thought MP games would be kind of... well, very slow. I was surprised to find out that, with simultaneous turns, it goes pretty fast.

The Battle of Dis was truly epic....

The Bannor were at war with the Balseraphs for some time. When what should our wondering eyes appear, why it's Hyborem and he builds a city literally BETWEEN the warring factions on an isthmus.

The Bannor tried their only hope... to attack early. During the battle, one Infernal longbow was killed, and Hyborem himself lost his immortality. But the tide was soon to turn.

Meanwhile, the Balseraphs are rampaging through Kuriotate lands, and the Sheaim and Luchiurp have been going at it for ages. As a result, manes are popping like biscuits in Dis. The rapid production badly outperforms a Bannor people not yet ready to rally.

Just when all hope has seemingly ended for the Bannor, who should arrive at their borders but several regiments of Grigori infantry led by adventurers seeking glory. A bit later came wave after wave of Grigori horsemen through Balseraph lands to the doorstep of Dis.

This rallied the Bannor, and demagogues began flooding out from Bannor towns. Soon the battle was set.... with only one big problem...

Hyborem showed up with his demonic soldiers cased in the finest armor, and wielding powerful iron weapons.

The Bannor and Grigori both lacked metal of any kind.

That did not stop the brave warriors of Bannor or Grigori.

Against all odds, wave after wave of wood and bone wielding soldiers pushed themselves through the putrid streets of Dis, slaughtering all in their path.

First Bannor scouts attacked Infernal axemen, weakening their positions. Right behind them came the Grigori horsemen, their speed and agility causing Hyborem a world of hurt. Bannor demagogues began hurling themselves at anything demonic that still moved followed closely by Grigori axes (of bone apparently) striking out at the strongest remaining Infernals.

At last Valin found his way through to Hyborem and slew the beast once and for all.

All was not yet won... the Infernal troops continued to heal and grow, while Bannor and Grigori troops did not.

With that the last of the Grigori axes and horses went after any left standing in Dis.

Once Grigori might was spent, they had lost Khord Tenhare, Pinchete, and Needles, whose unit had gained the Heroes of the Sword title in the battle, as well as the horses led by a now mounted Carrow the Hunted.

Valin and Donal with the remnants of the Bannor army were at last able to capture and burn Dis to the ground, finally ending the short reign of Infernals in Erebus.

In their mad desire for conquest, the Bannor commit a fatal sin. First, they snatch up both the Gela AND Orthus' Axe which had found it's way to Dis, leaving Grigori with NO payment for their help. They also ignored Grigori warnings about a Balseraph army coming towards them in great numbers.

While the Grigori and Bannor squabbled about rightful ownership of said weapons, Chuckles shows up and destroys the remnants of the Bannor army, including Valin Phanuel and takes the Gela and the Axe for himself.

I always knew I hated that clown! LOL

After jules retired, I took control of the ragged Bannor armies. A few kind words to the Dwarves and we had Iron, and with Torrolerial cranking out a Demagog every single turn, when the game ended the Bannor had taken 4 cities from the clowns, with a massive army at the games of Argenteria, with the intention of building the Mercurian Gate in the FoL holy city.

At this moment my laptop died with a Memory Parity Error, Kyro and Greeney got OOS issues and the game was abandoned. Still, was a fun game.

Oh, and that is the last time I go out to dinner :P

The Luchuirp, away from the bloddy war between Hyborem and Perpentach against the Bannor and the Grigori, only sent some late intermittent help, with their golems' fireballs acting as catapults in the Bannor's conquest of the Balsheraph cities.

Their focus was, on the other hand, on the devilish Sheiam. Their wooden golems were too weak against Sheiam's pyre zombies. It took a while until the dwarves learned how to build iron golems. Once that was accomplished, the fate of the Sheiam was sealed.

Rosier the Fallen fell again as soon as he reached the Luchuirp cities. Two Sheiam cities were conquered, one of them being the Holy City of the Ashen Veil. I wonder why the Luchuirp didn't decide to raze such a city (my bad... I made a stupid mistake). Soon after, the heroic army of the Luchuirp (made up of fireball-throwing iron golems, two repairing mages, Arthendaim, Bambur and Barnaxus) headed to Galvehorn, Sheiam's capital.

It was nothing like the epic feat of Dis' conquest, but Sheiam had piled up tons of pyre zombies and diseased corpses in their capital. Luckily enough, only a couple of Ritualist were around, and could hardly compete with the Mages' repairing skills. A few iron golems had to be sacrified to open a breach, was it was worth it. The heroes managed to deal slowly with the enemy. And the city was conquered.

Sheiam had 3 small cities left, but hardly could they withstand any longer.

And then, Azhral crashed

Gotta bump....

We need more players this weekend.... we are running low

Despite the discussion about appropriately built wonders, etc.... we rarely have any such problems..... most things are either obvious... or work themselves out quickly....

If not.... warfare can frequently be the final arbiter of justice.
