hey im playing the latest mod for the civ4 vanilla. am i missing something? why cant i play as the dark elf chick, or do world spells, this may be answered somewhere but i just cant find it. also i noticed the pedia file has some stuff that i dont see in the game im playing.. ie. guilds. help please

None of those features were implemented back in the Vanilla days. While the last developed version for Vanilla users (0.23) is certainly stable and playable, if you want the remaining features you'll have to upgrade to BtS.

You have to get BtS. Faeryl Viconia*, World Spells, and Guilds were all introduced in 0.30 ("Shadow").

*Technically, you could run into her as a rival leader, but you could never play as either the Svartlafar or the Sidar. The Illians are still like that; they won't be playable for some time.

Playing as an "unimplemented" leader requires only changing bPlayable from a 0 to a 1 in their CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml

In the BtS version, this tag if for the civ instead, in the CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml; also, it doesn't really work to stop you from playing the civ in Shadow, not in custom games. It won't let you select the civ by itself, but you can still select Auric Ulvin, which lets you play as the Illians anyway. You still can't start as Hyborem of Basium though, perhaps because they also have bAIPlayable set as 0

I am also playing 023 vanilla with Arendel. Any idea why I cannot convert to a religion even though I have founded it?

I do not have BtS. Is it really that much better than vanilla? Most of the screen shots don't look that much different.

What is Faeryl Viconia's hidden trait suppose to do? She was playable in version 016, but that hidden trait was not enabled.

Well, it has been a while since I've played vanilla FfH, and I actually skipped .23 (I was stuck with dial-up over the summer, and .25 came out just before I moved back to college), but I'll help if I can.

Not sure why you can't adopt a religion. What religion are you trying to adopt? No one can adopt Cult of the Dragon, but of course the elves can't found it either so I doubt that is relevant. In BtS FfH an AI weight of -100 prohibits even human players from adopting it. That might be the case in .23 too, but I I just looked at the xml and she doesn't have such a weihghting to any religion but CotD. Are you sure you really founded the religion? If you were not the first to research a religion founding tech you would get a disciple unit instead of a holy city, so you would have to manually spread it before you convert.

The only other thing I can think of is that you must wait a minimum number of turns between converting. You hadn't just adopted something else a few turn earlier, did you?

BtS is definitely better. Of course, there are a few things that Kael decided not to include in the BtS version that I wish he had, but he was concerned about bugs and performance issues.

Hidden never got implemented. Kael said it would have something to do with espionage, making known maps degrade, or something like that, but he changed his mind about it. It has been implied that these would eventually be related to the Council of Esus religion and/or passive effects of shadow mana, but those particular ideas are not in the game. I do think that it it reduced the cost of Thieves Guilds though, but that isn't much compared to the other traits. In Shadow, Faeryl has Arcane/Raiders and Sandalphon (Morgoth was renamed, sine most people though "Dark Lord" when they saw this neutral leader's name) has Industrious/Defender.

Thanks for the info.

This Arendel thing is certainly a little weird. I was trying to convert to Leaves, and I have the holy city. I first wondered if I needed to learn another tech to enable me to start converting, but I went into world builder and gave myself all the techs to test it, but still nothing. I have waited the 10 turns plus, as I played on to see if it would let me. What makes it more strange is that other leaders I have contact with have converted to other religions.

I guess I play another leader, or upgrade to BtS.

Am I correct in assuming 023 is the last patch/upgrade done for vanilla?

Just tested another game with Arendel, and she is able to convert to a religion. I am wondering now if maybe I have "random personalities" checked when I started this game.

Yeah, I was wondering about random personalities too. If that is selected, then toy could have gotten Cassiel's, Auric's, or Hyborem's personality with Arendel, and so not be able to convert.

Of course, if that is the case you would also get their alignment, iirc. You didnt happen to be neutral or evil, did you?
