Ok, so it finnaly happened...for the longest time I've been into the antiquity or middle ages and even 19th century scenarios, but untill now the modern era didn't interest me as much for Civ. Well I started playing the World War in the Pacific scenario and now I'm hooked.

Anyways, this post is about Fighter Planes...I'm a bit fuzzy on how air superiority work. I read the civlopedia but it didn't explain application that well. Any help? Thanks guys.

Air superiority works like the fighter is on sentry, if your city or territory is being bombed by an enemy bomber of fighter and is in the range or your fighter, there is a chance that you may intercept and shoot down the enemy plane. There is also a chance that you will be destroyed, especially if you have been weakened by a previous engagement. It is best to heal your fighter after each engagement.

...in addition to Pounder's info:
An aircraft on AS can only shoot down one enemy aircraft per turn. So deploying a decent number of AS-aircraft may be quite useful.
1 turn after a succesful interception, the aircraft becomes automatically 'active' again (so you wouldn't miss repairing a half-wrecked plane).

Not sure, but it appears that AS-aircraft would not start if enemy aircraft attack a third civ (ally/neutral/enemy) within operational range.

The counter to air patrols is to send in a fighter on bomb or scout mission.

Of course, you can just send in wave after wave of bombers until the fighters get tired.
