File not found error

I played with a friend a LAN-game on a huge map with 4 computer opponents. Soon after(or the same turn, I don't remember exactly) one of the AI players(the Russians I think) build the Knights Templar wonder I got a file not found error and the game crashed to the desktop.
My friend could still play. The file in question was "Art\units\Knight\Knight Death.wav".
After a bit of searching I found a file named "KnightDeath.wav" (note: no space between "Knight" and "Death") in the original Civ3 folder, not the C3C folder.
The error was reproducable by loading the last autosave.
After I renamed the file "KnightDeath.wav" to "Knight Death.wav" the error did not occur again.

My system specs:
AMD Duron 1200 Mhz
Geforce 2 Pro with latest drivers
448 MB RAM
WinXP SP1
Civ 3 fresh installed (without any patches/mods)
C3C fresh installed

Please write your bug the way it's shown in the Bug Reports Guideline thread, and include your gamesave and/or screenshot. Also read the changes to the game in the Comprehensive Survey thread in the main C3C forum. If possible, also include your PC specs (go to Start-->run, and type in dxdiag).

Got another one, this time it was "Art\units\Galleon\GalleonFidget.wav". Through a bit of searching around I found out that several other units(e.g. the battleship) had sound files missing. Those were all units that came with the original Civ 3 game.
As I said above I did install Civ 3 without the latest patch before installing Conquests because I assumed Conquests would update it automatically. Apparently this was not the case. After I updated Civ 3 to version 1.29f the missing sound files were installed.
This will of course not solve my first problem with the "KnightDeath.wav" file, this seems to be related to Conquests. Or does the game somewhere have a list of all unit related files and Conquests uses the one from the original Civ 3 game? And in that list the spelling error occured but was later fixed in a patch. This would also explain why my friend could still play, because he had Civ 3 patched to 1.29f before installing Conquests.

Anyway it seems a major screwup to me that Conquests apparently does not patch the original game to its latest version.

update:
Just checked what was fixed in previous updates. And under v1.21f it lists "Correct Knight Death SFX now plays". So the problem really was that I didn't update to 1.29f before installing Conquests. Oh well.

Installing C3C over a clean install C3 DOESN'T include all the patches, you have to install them as well???

AHHHeAIIEEEEEE!

SOmeone PLEASSSEEEEE tell me this isn't so ....

This really seems to be the case, another friend of mine installed fresh as well and had the same problems.

What would happen for a computer without an internet connection?

Is there some easy way to fix it?
