Finding NON Hidden Antiquity Sites

Okay so this has driven me a bit crazy since I installed BNW - after the initial "announcement", I have a lot of trouble finding antiquity sites. Like locating them on the map (not beating the AI to them, and I'm not talking about the "Hidden" ones that require exploration).

Sometimes it seems the tile improvement renders over them, (especially lumber mill), but at other times, they are just hiding behind a city's title, or just hard to spot among the sea of other tile improvements. Sometimes if I select an archaeologist, I'll find one because of the recommendation, but often I can't find them at all until I stumble upon it much later (or the AI starts plundering them when I give them open borders).

Is there a quick way to find and scroll through the ones visible to me?

(Is there a way to do this with strategic resources, also?)

Well they do get a little marker-icon on the map next to them just like and with the same option strategic and luxury and even normal resources get them (check the area left of the minimap).

What graphic settings are you using and what's your graphic card? Just wondering, gotta be kinda low, but even then it should be fairly visible.

Maybe you can also switch to strategic view and see if they are more noticeable there for you.

Sometimes the graphic likes to disappear, especially if there are other things on the tile.

I recommend turning on the resource icons to track them down...there's also a mod out there that highlights the tiles containing an antiquity site with a pink hexagon when an archaeologist is selected.

The issue with antiquity sites for me isn't a visibility issue, but that you have to hunt the screen for them. I'd like to see them highlighted when you select an archaeologist, similar to suggested city site with a settler.

Edit: ninja Jedi ...

1) The problem is slightly better in Strategic View, because the different kinds of symbols have reserved spots within the orthographically-viewed hex.

2) When you select an Archaeologist, sites *within your territory* highlight. I too wish they all did.

I never noticed ones in my territory highlight.

That said, if you turn on the resource bubbles, it also shows those which can be nice since mine don't always seem to render as well.

To find Archaeology Sites, your best bet is definitely to turn on the "Resource Icons".
Also, if you just want to find out if you have any in your territory, you can always check your Resource List.

Check the what now?

In the upper left-hand corner of the game screen (where you'll usually have the Research progress pane open), there's an option to open the "Resource List". The icon is that of the 'Create Fishing Boats' improvement, and, once opened, the pane will show you the number of Luxury and Bonus resources you have improved. The number of Antiquity Sites you have in your territory will appear under the Bonus Resources heading.
Yeah, I know it's kinda weird, but...

Not that weird actually, since they're basically treated like bonus resources, eg. in the strategic view. I just never knew that was there. I've literally never used anything except the science progress there. I'll have to check that out more. :)

Using the resource bubbles got me 90% of the way there; I'll have to try that resource panel because one of them still managed to hide.

Strategic view is harder to navigate, because there are just circles in every tile all over the place. I suppose antiquity site has a reserved spot but it still blurs together to me.

Graphics card is a Radeon 7970, I run in 1920x1200 with almost all the settings highest.

At least on my computer I've confirmed that, at times, antiquity sites don't render at all on the map. Should have taken a screenshot, but a desert with a farm over it showed as just that (no antiquity site). The resource bubbles don't have this problem.

I do wish there was a way to see all of one specific thing without the clutter of all the other resources/improvements/etc. I've discovered I have tons of the strategic resources I don't care about and none or almost none of the ones I do. Oh well.

Try this:

Strategic view, resources overlay, resources icon mode, no features, no yields.

That will remove pretty much everything except the resource icon itself.
