"No More Draft! Hell, No, We Won't Go!" What is up with that? If a city is constantly drafted or pop rushed, its citizen will be very unhappy - so far so good here. However, when that city is conquered by another civ (or by me), the unhappiness dued to those recent draft or pop rush shouldn't be transfered to the new owner.

I really hate it when I conquer a city and find out that there is nothing I could do to make those people content becuase their previous ruler treated them like dirt! I think the people should be smarter than that and realize that I am not like their previous cruel ruler. May be Firaxis could do something about this in the next patch. Thanks!

Hmm, after you killed all those draftees, those citizens will love you much more. :) or did you capture them & return them to their homes?

Firaxis' unfortunate solution appears to be to Ethnically Cleanse conquered cities. Very poor idea.

I do agree that the idea of throwing out all unhappiness is ridicuous, but keeping it all is enven worse! Maybe cut it by 75%?????

Let's see...

If'd take your 3 older brothers away and use them as cannon fodder, do you think you'd be happy again when a new monarch shows up at your gate? The very same person that bombshelled your house and whose armies killed your kindred?

I think not.

That is "stop destroying our motherland"! It's totally a different kind of unhappiness. Have you ever talked to an unhappiness person to see what he/she is so unhappy about? Next time, talk to them and you will know what I am talking about.

PS: How do you talk to an unhappy person? Just double click on the unhappy person and a window will popup telling you what he/she is so unhappy about.

Yes, I'm serious! Every person may have a different reason for being unhappy. I always talk to them to see what they are so unhappy about...that helps me to run my empire better.:)

My take on this is that they have to make it slightly more complex. Assuming that you are still at war after taking the city, then most of the draft unhappiness should be suppressed, as you have "liberated" them. Though many of those draft unhappy people maybe should be resistors. However, the moment you begin drafting anywhere in your empire, the draft "unhappiness" should return. Since now you are no better than their motherland.

What they are saying is let's say France drafts citizens to become riflemen. Germany kills those riflemen. Would a mother of the killed draftee/rifleman be really happy with Germany? France did the draft, but Germany is the one that actually did the killing.

Stop the agression against our mother country is more from the unhappiness of your civ attacking their former land where they have ancestors, friends, distant relatives, etc. The area where they grew up, and from where they get their history/culture from.

Unhappiness from whipping (like whipping improvements), should not be passed on to the new leader, though. People will still be sad for the ones they lost, but happy because the new leader ends this.

Agree!:) For the record, I have never drafted any of my troop. "Never" means "never" through out my entire game. Therefore, I wish that they would recognize me as their savior who has just "liberated" them from the their previous evil ruler.;)

Very good idea! If Firaxis improves the "unhappiness" situation in the next patch, we would have a better game.:)

Starve 'em down to 2 or 3 and build them back up with your citizens. It's a nasty thing to do but if their going to not be happy with their new ruler (you) do a Marie Antoinette and let them eat cake!

Well, instead of starving them, I just pay 80 golds to produce a new "slave" worker in every turn from scratch. If you have at least one shield in the prodution queue, it costs much less than 80 golds. Moreover, because they are a "slave" worker, I don't have to pay upkeep for them.:)

Yes, waiting that first turn cuts the price of rush buying in half. But are you sure that turning foreign citizens into workers are considered 'captured' workers (no upkeep costs). I didn't know/realize that, if that is in fact true.

Yes, I'm 100% sure about this. I'm using this method all the time.:) They work twice as slow as your normal wokers and you pay no upkeep.:)

Moreover, when you turn foreign citizens into workers, these workers will have a foreign label. If you later on join these workers back to the city, you will get foreign citizens back. This is how I originally discovered that I don't have to pay upkeep for them.:)

In the post on Apolyton (oddly enough, with an identical topic), Soren actually answered this.

Yes, I know. I posted the same message over there.;) For some of you who don't check the other board, Soren said only 50% of the unhappiness deal to draft or pop rush would go to the new owner.
