Because Hippo failed to provide a poll (And if you needed 4 polls, you should post em, Hippo-man!), I don't have a consenus on course of action.

Only polls can show the will of the people, as this stands, I will have to use my own judgement on this matter.

As it stands, people want to:

Trade techs freely (to an extent, let's guard anything critical)
Get their map
Sign no treaties unless we get dough out of it.

Simple, no?

Rather late than never...

Can't we build a diplomat and establish an embassy.. Then we can see if they are crushable or tradeworthy. For now I'd say trade one tech and see what else they have on offer.

when I run into someone, I usually save the game, then give them everything I have untill they are worshipful, and ask for thier map. if they say no, I give summore stuff, then ask again, untill I have given everything. then I ask for thier map again, and if I dont get it, I load the game, and just trade some techs. some might call that cheating, I just call it "seeing if they want to give me thier maps" as in real life, I could just say "what do you want for in exchange for your map?"

Very astute observation, however, that 'few' could also be classified as the 'majority'.
