First thing you build in a city?

I often build workers first in almost any city (past the first few), because its a very easy easy way to build those necessary workers in cities that don't really need growth right away. it also helps to link that city up to your road network (earlier in the game) and any resources that the city has.

Early on...Capital - first 3 warriors then settler then 2 spears and a settler and so on...other cities - two spears then a settler (or whatever I can get by the time my city reaches pop 3). This always lets me avoid any pesky AI attacks early in the game (I always give them 3 extra settlers, 3 extra workers and a bunch of free units at the start)

Later in the game I always build temple, library then courthouses if needed. But then I play on a 210x210 map with 24 civs...

I also almost always build a worker first in every city (unless of course it won't grow in time). Typically I'll build Temple then Courthouse (or Library then Court if Scientific). Barracks come later because 1) there is an expense so I want the city big enough to pay for it with proper roads adding commerce and 2) Every city doesn't need a barracks, only this which will be pumping out my military.

However, when you make the charge that this is Modern Times (why would any city be built in modern times?) I would say that typically if I'm building in modern times its because I'm an invading force and need to get troops there pronto - in which case my first improvement is an Airport.

I am very agressive so I always build def and off units, but I have a temple in every city of my empire.

Also I hate to lose, so I made my own scenario, basically the settings are the default for C3C but I have changed the ADM for 4 units of the romans (Its my favourite civ) so I never lose :p , I have 16/10/3 for the legionary and I added an roman Infantry who has 25/35/10 and its very cheap :)

Very early in the game, i start by building all settlers. A little ways into the game, half of the cities are producing settlers, and i set the rest to built 2 offencive units, one defensive unit, and a worker; respectively. From there i try to build a temple for the cultural expansion. The temple is most handy during or after wartime. After i capture another civ's city and the cultural value drops, i have to reclaim the land before other civs "fill up the cracks".

As far as the first wonder, i used to go for anything i could (colossus and pyramids took priority), but now i go straight towards the great library. Sometimes i debate if the loss of the pyramids, colossus, hanging gardens, and great lighthouse are worth the short term effects of the great library.

It depends how I got that city. If I built it myself and it's late in the game, the city will be too corrupt to actually build anything in short notice: a worker to improve the surrounding tiles, if I conquered it: a worker, to get rid of the foreign people and make them work instead of spending their time plotting for a culture flip. :)

It'll be diffent if I want a quick culture boost, usually in 100k games, then it'll be a Library, almost always rushed after the initial single shield, a Temple after that.

It depends on how many luxeries I have at the time. If it is really early and I have nothing of the sort, then I go straight for a temple. Or if the city is near the AI border and it is under threat of flipping.

Later in the game, when I go on a rampage of killing death, I'll usually build a courthouse first in the cities (if there is any hope of it improving the corruption level) or, if not, I'll probably build either a temple (again) or a granary (to get that population high enough to get a significant number of police).

I am slightly amazed that so few people build temples first though. Hmmm... I might have to see how that effects my stragey...

Ohh! Haha, I actually modded the game so that the AI can only build units called 'Turdz' who have an ADM of 1/1/1 and cost 100 shields! Some people say it makes the game too easy but I just hate loosing! Ohh, I just can't stand it! Grr!

First unit warior to explore then warior for def then setler, setler, setler.....

later on first unit with highest def then library then market or high def unit then courthouse then library from there I build what I need.

I always try to get piramids and art of war for two reasons:
1- the AI won't get them
2- grant valuble imp. throughout the game that don't cost upkeep. ;)

Worker, then cheapest cultural improvement. Imma perfectionist from day one of the city's life!
