So i just improved a fish with fishing boats and it provides me with 2 extra gold?? Is that correct it says in the civopedia or whatever its called now that it should yield 2 extra food?? Rather important because i just constructed an academy near a seaside city with 4 fish resources thinking it could be my science city...

Still having an easy game first game on chieftain. Annihalated Alexander and the list 'people with biggest sticks' gave me like 900 to 150 to the next so i have a bit more military power...

Resources work different in civ5. If a resource grants +X, it does so even before building the improvement. Then the improvement grants something else.

I think it was this way:

Coast
1 food 1 gold
Fish
+2 food
Fishing Boats on Fish
+2 gold
Lighthouse
+1 food
Seaport
+2 production

in the end
4 food 3 gold 2 production

golden age
4 food 4 gold 3 production

Colossus wonder in city also +1 gold but only until some tech makes it obsolete (think it was navigation)

pretty good but usually it also means you got lots of very bad water tiles nearby

Thanks for the help. The lighthouse gives one extra food alright, that makes it quite good at 4-3 already. Hadnt even heard about the Seaport yet, that would give even islandcities some production, its like a dyke + maoui for the dutch in civ4!! Colossus was built by Athens so i own it now. Alexander only had one city with the Hanging Gardens and Colossus in it so that was a nice catch!

Considering CIV5 has smaller cities, coastal cities with 3 or more sea resources are the second best cities in the game (first being riverside).
