Flash Animation/Movies

I was wondering if there is a way to make Flash Movies/Animations. Please let me know, Thanks .

Macromedia publishes a program that allows you to author them. However that program is expensive unless you're a professional. (high 3 digit or low 4 digit)

There are also likely inferior shareware tools which support flash authoring. For instance see http://www.swishzone.com
