Hey, my friend and I are in the middle of a two-week+ old game, and we were wondering if it's possible to use flexible difficulty to change the AI's difficulty mid-game. We can change our own difficulties, and the change is reflected in the lobby, but even with "AI uses flexible difficulty" checked, the AI's difficulty will not budge from noble in the lobby screen. Editing the GlobalDefines.xml to default the AI to settler works for future games, but leaves our current game untouched.

(Bonus question, is there any way to automatically give built units that comes out of a city a set of exact promotions? It gets really annoying when a city produces 3 axemen a turn that each have 27 exp that need allocating.)

Here is a picture of our Flexible Difficulty settings:

I'm not even aware that an option to change the AI difficulty in-game exists to be honest and if it does I don't recall anyone working on it. But it might've slipped past my notice. It looks to me to be an incorrect relabelling of another way to implement player adjusting difficulty.

As for the Promos... if you're building large groups of units, why not wait until they're all trained, group all of the same and promote them all at one time? Doing them one at a time is frustrating but you shouldn't need to do each individually. A mechanism like that, however, would not be within the realm of my expertise unfortunately. AIAndy might've been willing to do something like that if he were still modding.

I see, thanks.

What difficulty do you think we should go with? I can single-handedly get any wonder, have nearly twice the next-best score, and the only reason any of the AI have any "modern" techs is because I gave it to them. Should we just shoot straight up to deity?

Sure... do that and see how it goes. Then you could set the AI to be at Settler level and go for nightmare mode deity and see how that fares if you want to ensure getting stomped (I think).

And to keep it from changing your difficulty to settler you could use what's it called, "Rising difficulty" GameOption, as it incrementally raises what the minimum difficulty can be for the player and only the player.
Rising Difficulty should be safe to turn on in WorldBuilder (ctrl+w) during a game.
