*NOTICE* This is a - free, non-RPG - thread. This is for posting demogame news, especially for those who don't bother with the RPG. It also serves as a written history of sorts of Fanatika.

The Great Trade Debates

With the advent of writing, communications where open to the rest of our world! Science and Trade had similar ideas for the exchange of communications, however, the Science Deputy had other ideas. A great, 90 minute debate ensued in the Demogame, on whether or not to trade all contacts to England, or partial contacts. Eventually, 5 of our contacts were traded with all 6 of England's contacts.

The Meeting of the Worlds

Our scout gazed across the Great Eastern Landbridge, and wondered who else might lay out there. We already knew one half, and travellers informed us of a whole entire world on the other side. The scout made his way to England with a message from President Eklektikos. "We wish to give thee, Queen Elizabeth, contact with 5 of our known nations, in exchange for your contacts". The Queen agreed, and an exchange of contacts was made. We then traded contacts to other nations for gold.

The Great Vote Debates

Like a bad sequel to the Great Trade Debates, another debate ensued over voting. This time, plans for 2 new cities were the center of the controversity, and opinions were much more polarized. One group wanted a simple spot vote, another wanted the leaders to handle it. Yet another wanted to stop the chat and take it to the forums. This time, the chat was called off, and the upcoming war with the Aztecs will have to wait an extra day...

The Aztec War

The war against the Aztecs has begun! The city of Tlaxcala has been captured, however, our forces to the south are struggling to take hold of Tenochtitlan. This is creating worries within the nation. Some are more optomistic than others that we will prevail, with more reinforcements on the way.

0% Research

There has been some talk of 0% science at this level of play. The idea was privately discussed, and origanal proposed by a citizen, eyrei - to which Strider, the science advisor, looked at eyrei as though he had two heads. The Trade Leader, Chieftess is reported to support the idea of 0% research. The idea is to buy your way through techs, as the AI outpaces you in research at this level. The advantage is cheaper techs that you don't have to pay for research. The disadvantage is that you'll rarely be on top of the AI in science. Thus is the nature of Emperor and Deity levels.

Nominations & Elections

It's the end of the month again, and elections are right around the corner! Fanatika needs willing leaders who are comfortable at Emperor level decisions. We're currently plagued with absenteeism of officals (including governors, deputies, and even at time, department leaders). Nominations will last until the 29th, when elections are held. Debates will start on the 26th.

ONE HIT WONDER

Our attack on Tenoctitlan has failed, with the loss of 2 archers, whoever, a 1 hitpoint swordsman valiantly defends against 2 full hitpoint archers! A dedication cerimony in honor of the swordsman at the site of the battle is in the works. It's been rumored that the 1HP sword has been giving military lessons to future swordsman...

NEWS FROM THE FRONT LINES

The battle for Tenochtitlan is going slowly. Two of our archers were defeated, and so were two of the Aztec archers. Our reinforcements have also arrived several turns later, and are camped at the gates of the city. By turn chats' end, our forces have entered the great city of Tenochtitlan! The prize is ours! CHOCOLATE!!! So far, over 5,000 troops have given their lives in this war. The next city to be captured is Teotihaucan.

WESTWARD HO!

Our expansion has started, and the town of Bremershaven was recently founed. Plans are in the works for even more cities around the core of our nation. To the east, however, the Americans are threatening to close the land bridge.

TEN TURNS!

In a rare turn chat moment this game, we actually completed 10 turns without taking it to the forums early. Previous turn chats were cut short because of meeting new civs, settlers, and quorum-less polls.

I'm still writing them. TF hasn't put the above one up, and I was waiting until after this turn morning's turn chat.

I would also be able to help out if help is needed. May I could write a little column or something.

MEDIVAL WORLD WAR!

As the Age of Chivalry rolls on, the Eastern and Western Domino Wars have erupted into a global World War. Egypt was already the first casualty, being swallowed by the mighty Persians. The Japanese, once #1 in power and culture, are slowly subcuming to the western nations. During this war, the Persians have also decided to declare war on us! But, because of their distance, we have yet to see a single immortal...

Meanwhile, in the war against the Japanese, we have gotten a Great Leader, and after much debate, a Forbidden Palace was built in Kyoto. This doubled our economy, and we are finally starting to compete with the AI! We are not out of the woods yet, as America and England to the east have been slightly violatile as of late. Babylon also has emense culture, which could tempt our people to sway to their cause.

LONGEST TURN CHAT IN DEMOGAME HISTORY!

We recently played our longest turn chat ever! The final time, after just 5 turns (an abbriviated turn chat), was 6 hours and 20 minutes. The previous record stood at 6 hours. The game, which started at 4:00pm EST, was called off at 10:20pm EST by the 2nd DP (Designated Player), as everyone was literally starting to fall asleep.

THE WAR RAVAGES ON

The war in the west is slowly, but surely coming to an end, as our knights are taking the last few cities. Despite their heavy losses, the Japanese are still putting up much resistence, especially in the city of Kagoshima, which appears to be their last major stronghold. We have also taken the last Aztec city, and have signed an allience with China against the Persians...

THE "PHONY PERSIAN WAR"

As our forum Science Advisor would say, "The first demogame is attacking us!". Earlier in the world war, Persia extorted us for incense, and upon our refusal, they declared war. A web of alliences were forged (then broken and forged again). After nearly 20 turns of "war", an interesting development has taken place. Persia and France have allied against England! This "Phony War" is coming ever so closer to our doorsteps. If we are drawn into the eastern conflict, will our knights arrive in time to prevent our cities from falling?

THE RECORD HAS BEEN BROKEN AGAIN!

In our recent turn chat, we have eclipsed the record a 2nd time in a row! The turn chat lasted approximately 7 1/2 hours, with everyone actually staying up until turn 9, which ended in the ongoing seige of Kagoshima.

- Province of the Week -

This is a new feature of the "Fanatika News Network" (FNN) news updates. One province will be selected each week

TALIESIN - THE EASTERN FRONT

Despite our miniscule culture, we have managed to flip the city of Clevland in the province of Taliesin! The city, though, is just off centered of our desired location, and there has been scarce talk of abandoning and rebuilding. Despite this, the city gives Taliesin a production powerhouse by the time the industrial age rolls around. Also, with elections coming, the next governor may get to rename this city! The province is also in the midst of a debate on cultural and militaristic growth.

ORGANIZED JAPANESE RESISTENCE

Close to the fall of Japan, there were rumors in Russian held city of Osaka and our city of Yokohama that an underground resistence movement was in the works. Before our agents could infiltrate these rebels, they started an uprising in Yokohama, then Osaka! The mayors of those cities were disposed and control reverted to back the Japanese. A nearby knight force was called to put an end to this rebellion, and defeated the rebel spearman. Our troops were approaching Osaka when Russia reclaim that city.

SEIGE OF KAGOSHIMA

The seige was bloody and slow, with the Indians and Russians joining in on the assualt. An India War Elephant was able to defeat one unit, while another injured a 2nd. We were also able to take out some troops, and injure some more. Later in the seige, India and Russia retreated (Russia had found bigger game. Persia.), leaving Kagoshima for us to take with our knights!

"TOYLAND! TOYLAND!"

Our forces then turned north, to the northern most city of Toyama (dubbed Toyland by those present at the turn chat). Toyama fell rather quickly compared to Kagoshima. Christmas Trees are being chopped down by the forests SE of Toyama, and are being taken to the palace. As that wasn't enough to top off a stunning victory, the Japanese are completely defeated, and we're the best nation in the world!

"LUCKY 7, COME 11!"

We had our 2nd longest turn chat - just shy of the record by mere minutes! For the 2nd time, the turn chat was stopped at turn 7 (at about 11:28pm EST) so we can discuss gunpowder trades in the forums. Discussion about the game lingered on for another 45 minutes.

Now THAT'S good reporting, CT. :goodjob:

Well, the price of paper is becoming cheaper... :D

SLOW BUT STEADY

After over 2 weeks of planning, and playing not more than 5 turns, political factions (not in its' true form, as they are forbidden in Fanatika) started a split between the builders and the warmongers, with several "on the fence". The argument was over "Plan A", which made for about 28% of our cities producing units. The builders on the other hand, wanted culture and growth. Even the builders were split on a common goal. Tensions mounted greatly as the demogame was about to plunge into its' 3rd 'civil war'. The first was PI#6 in the first demogame (over the trade of medicine). The 2nd was a questionable citizen group right after tensions in a certain Civ3 forum... ;) An alternate plan was hatched, with some, but less, resistence. Progress was made when the FA and Trade Leader, both on opposite sides, came up with a treaty plan, to renegotiate peace deals with other nations. This "lost art" perhaps brought us back in line. In the following turn chat, we actually played 10 turns for a change!

GEMS FOR SALE

Our gems were recently connected, netting us an additional 100gpt to our coffers. This would greatly aid that alternate plan A. However... for all the planning for knights and muskets, it had one fatal flaw. No provision for gradually upgrading our muskets...

WAR CREEPS IN FROM THE SOUTH!

The headlines flashed:

WAR!!!
Androbius falls!
Huntington falls!
Riga falls!
Gunningheim falls!
Grandmastoria falls!

President, Trade and Domestic Leader TRAPPED in Huntington Casino!

This time, war HAS crept in from the south... The Indians have invaded us while in our territory! Returning home from the Phony Persian War, they blitzed our cities to the north, and to the south. Indian war elephants have been trampling our plains for centuries heading to Persia, now we know what their true mission was - to scout our land for an invasion! Three of our leaders were in the Huntington Casino, watching an opera about the Japanese wars. The show just went into imtermission when sounds of angry elephants could be heard. As families were fleeing and shielding their kids, one young girl was overheard saying to her brother, "Aww, I wanted to see the next war..", to which her brother replied, "Yeah, that's the problem. The second act starts now! I wanted to see it"... This second act in the World War IS about to begin. In India! One of our targets, Russia, has units in our territory and is fighting the Chinese, who border India.

A citizen forum, another lost art in the demogame, has formed: url=http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41179]OFRM - Organized Fanatikan Resistence Movement! (national defense planning thread)[/url]. A citizen group is where demogame citizen meet to discuss their concerns about current situations in the game, and to make suggestions. This one is to discuss the current invasion of India. Maps of the battlezones may also be displayed in this group.

1000AD

WAR AND RESISTANCE

In 900AD, the Indians, without warning, attacked us and took 4 cities. It was origanally reported that Grandmastoria fell in the seige due to the chaos of the attack. In fact, it was still standing, with an elite pike in its’ midst. In 910AD, the battle for Hintington was underway. A Vet and 2 Regular knight forces totaling some 3,000 men, and another 1,000 in reinforcements. were able to retake Huntington as 15,000 Russian troops stood at the gates. India had another 33,000 troops in the north. The North Province would fell just that fury. In 930AD, a brutal counterattack followed with heavy casaulties on both sides. Ten years later, the resistence movement in Gunningheim overthrew the Indians, making our reclaimation of the land easier. Androbius was librerated 20 years later. The Indians didn’t let go of that town so easily, and a fierce counterattack ensued. However, out of that battle, a knight in shining armor appeared: General Hengest, leading the charge against attacking War Elephants. Hengest was immediately sent to assist an accountant by the name of Smith build the Smith Trading Company. Our counterattack soon followed as Riga was liberated, the small town of Satsuma was turned into ruins, and the Indian dye fields of Ganges soon fell to us. The Indian jungle was also being taken by Chinese and Russian forces, who are also at war with either.

THE DAWN OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

During a survey of the land, it was noted that cities in several nations had smokestacks. Those were Babylon, France, Greece, and Persia (of which the Phony Persian War is still raging). Being behind in tech, the departments of Trade and Science urged an emergency tech trading session, acquiring Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy, and Military Tradition. Only Theory of Gravity and Magnetism remain. It is hoped that India gives us one of these techs after a few more Indian cities fall.

THE BETRAYAL

In the year 1000AD, it all started to unravel for Babylon. In the battlefields, it was reported that Babylon had broken our allience and signed a peace treaty with India. That wasn’t the only thing they broke. Trade deals were halted, Right Of Passage treaties were abused, and pratically every trade possible (atleast 6 in all). Then, the word came. Babylon had declared war on us! Unlike India, Babylon’s main army, consisting of tens of thousands of longbows (Babylon is in the industrial age) lays just to the east of our borders, in America and England. Alliences are being forged, both directly and indirectly. We have no embassy with Greece, but Greece and England do have an MPP. If Babylon attacks England, Greece finally enters their first war after all these years! Alliences are also being forged with Russia (Babylon’s northern neighbor), and the Iroquois (to the south). Our president, FortyJ, was overheard saying “Babylon is in for a world of hurt!”. Babylon has one fatal flaw. Their nation is very thin. Each city is pratically a border city. With forces descending from the north, and rising from the south, the world cultural power may very well be in the annals of civilization!
