The title says it all, I click on a folder, it opens partially and then locks up the entire computer.

Lock up means that NOTHING works. I can't even ctrl-alt-del my way out of it.

I've virus scanned the folder, but found nothing.

P.S. I DO NOT want to delete the folder!

I assume its only one particular folder? Can you view the folder through DOS? Have you tried making a copy of it then opening the folder? Do you have any security features enabled on the folder to forbid access?

I would try copying it then deleting the original. It may be that a program has locked its contents or something.

Also, you could use windows online updater (found in the Start menu "Windows update") and install any updates. The files that are replaced may fix the problem.

It is hard to diagnose a computer lockup without more information.

Good call Cartouche Bee. That did not even cross my mind. I would bet that is the problem. Possibly a bad sector on the hard disk so Windows does not know where the next bit of data comes from and hangs.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that is the problem, question will be how bad is the damage. Hope not to much. Flatlander Fox, had to turn power off to get out of the situation and that kind of gave it away to me.
