I've three problems:

1.) "* Enabling Smoothed Screen Fonts: To enable Font Smoothing, open the Display Control panel, select the Effects tab, and check 'Smooth edges of screen fonts'." (readme)
When I try it, it simply changes nothing. Every text in the game look pixeld and ugly.

2.) In the diplomatic screen, the messages for "Would you agree" and so on, are always shown in the lower part of the screen, and almost unreadable.

3.) In the diplomatic screen, clicking on "Active" or "New" doesn't work. It does nothing.

Any suggestions how to solve this probs?

Thanks, Danvil

Firaxis tech support and I worked through this one a couple of months ago.

You don't mention what OS you are running but I'm going to guess it is Win2k, sp1. The reason I say this is because Win2K, sp1 had a special font installation procedure that Civ3 couldn't work with.

Solution:

1) Uninstall Civ3.

2) Download and install Win2K's sp2.

3) Reinstall Civ3.

This should do it. On the off chance that it doesn't, you will have to uninstall Civ3 again, go to the Fonts folder and move all of the Lucida fonts to a temp folder, install Civ3, then copy the fonts back that Civ3 didn't install (This is what I did as step steps 1a and 4 - I don't really think it was necessary).

Good luck and have fun!

I'm pretty sure its still a font issue.

Look in your Fonts folder - if you have more than 200, you'll have problems. Kill a few of them and reinstall.

Even if you don't have more than 200 fonts, try my plan of moving all the Lucida fonts into a temp folder and reinstalling Civ3. Worst case you are still at the same place you are now.

Likely not the case, but you may want to check to make sure you are using small fonts (many programs have trouble with the large fonts). You find this under display properties in the control panel (at least on Win2000 you get it by select advanced under the settings tab).

Hmm..., in fact there ARE 196 fonts.
(And I thought I have a "fresh Win"... I reinstalled the whole System three weeks ago, and Civ3 was one of the first thing I installed....)

Ok, I'll try it...
And I'll try "Large fonts", too - only to be sure ....... :p

Ooh you will have fun with those large fonts. Last year one of the two grad computers in the M.Eng. office initially had large fonts enabled. With a 15" monitor it was a nightmare. Thankfully from the work I was doing over the summer I had been given the administrative log ons (since a program I used had a habbit of changing permissions on its files, doh!) and was able to change that right away. And then change it when ever the hard drive had to be reimaged. :)

hey, they look great ... (with my 19'' monitor  )
now I can relax and don't have those 3-pixel fonts in Netscape and Windows

but for Civ3 this changes simply nothing :(

But, regarding the third thing....
How can I see my current treaties and trade-agreement's?
I thought I can see them, when I click on "Active" in the windows, where I can made new deals... But Clicking does nothing

Anyone out ther who has the same problem?
