the way i heard it was that she died when a horse she was trying to have hung from teh ceiling and lowered on top of her FELL on her instead...but i'm not entirely sure that it's truth.salty mud said:

The horse story is false. It was made up by the French when she died. She died of a stroke.
The reason the French made up the story was that she was pissed at the French for killing the French king adn queen during the French revloution. She always hated them for this. And she also took in French refugees and made them swear an oath of loyalty to The Russian Empire. Thus when she died, the French made up the false horse story to get back at her. Call it a mutual hate relationship between her and the French.
