forbidden palace: build soon or keep for later

I am curious about what people do with their forbidden palaces.

You can build them fairly soon in the game, and the IA often builds them fairly soon; I like to keep them for the time in which my empire is fairly large and I build them far from my capital, to reduce corruption on a vast area.
The cons is that I waste the benefits of the palace for a long time.

What do you guys do? Actually, it just came to my mind only now, can I see the forbidden palace and rebuild it somewhere else?

Also, how big is the radius of the palace and the forbidden palace?

I usually leave mine 'til late, but Ive always thought of it as one of the weaknesses of my game...

It depends on how big my initial empire is.
If its very big, and i dont need to concquer my neighbour than i build it ASAP. If my terithory is smoll and i just know that i will have to fight for more, i leave it for later.

I build it soonn, unless I plan on capturing a good looking area. I generally do what Neomega does most of the time though.

I usually wait until I've wiped out at least one civ. I then use a MGL to build the FP in the defeated civ's former capital. It means you get the benefit of two empires in one.

But in C3C, the FP doesn't give you a second core. It enlarges your existing core and acts like a super courthouse.

sorry i'm not up with the lingo. isn't a great leader created in battle called an MGL?

In [civ3], can you sell small wonders and rebuild them?

I don't think so. You might be able to abandon the city, tho, and then rebuild it. Or if you can't raze, gift the city to the AI.

I think MGL comes up because there are 2 kind of leaders in C3C, Scientific Great Leader (SGL) which created because of techs, and Military Great Leader (MGL) created in the war. Previous CivIIIs have one 1 type of leader which called Great Leader (GL).

thanks for clearing the MGL thing up binyo66.
a quick question: in vanilla civ does the FP act as a second palace (as I think it does) or as a type of super courthouse (a la C3C)?

CIV III and PTW I build the forbidden ASAP sometimes close (first or second ring) from my Capital even using a prebuild if I do not have enough cities. Then I will move my palace using a Great Leader. Beleive me it is a huge advantage to have your forbidden palace built before 10 AD.
Some players would wait for a Gret Leader to rush a Forbidden Palace far away from their Capital, I will move my Palace instead, the difference is if I do not have the chance to get a great leader, at least I have a Forbidden Palace.
Also using a Great leader to rush a Forbidden palace in a city (sometimes captured city) far away from your Capital; this is taking the risk to see your forbidden palace city flipping!!!! This cannot happen with your Capital.

You would be surprised. Yesterday I made a test in Regent [civ3], I piled up a huge hoard of gold and initiated propaganda on the Aztec capital. Pronto it flipped.

Sounds like I need to get C3C. I hate the FP, because when I finally finish it, my empire is still large enough to make it less valuable that it seemed when I began building it.
