Fortify question

Well, it does a number of things.
If you have a unti thats in a fortress, and it is fortified, it will get a free hit on another passing unit.

Also, if you need to heal, fortify for a few turns, and you will heal gradually.
Otherwise that, thats all I know.

You should use it for the units that you o not plan to move (like the ones that are deffending cities) couse they will remain there till you click on them and will have a defensive bonus.

Also gives a 25% or 50% bonus to defense

hes right they give a 50% bonus to the defending unot when being attcked. The best example i can think of is a swordsman attacking a spearman early in the game. Due to the 50% increase, the attack and defense are the same. Usually causing a battle that could go either way. Mind you this is not taking into account fortresses outside a city or barracades even. And also not taken into account is if the attcking unit crosses a river or if ur city or single unit is on a mountain. Both cases result in a larger bonus for the defending unit. Hope this helped

I was always under the impression fortifying gives a 25% bonus...

It does but is cumulative with other bonuses.

And you can't build cities on mountains.

also, it doesnt heal your units, not moving them for a turn does. however it nicely wakes them up for you ocne they are fully healed
