We now have our Fourth Settler, we need to discuss location, do we want to retry for Copper town (as it is still open right now, or go with some place else?)

I think the coppertown location is still a good one, it will quiet a bit of the unease people have with our military situation, and will be a good block to France's expansion. I think we've got enough fog cleared around the area that our settler can set out without an escort, which should allow us to reach the site very quickly.

Without an escort?? Come on, a chariot has the same mp as a settler, at least cover the settler with a chariot.

I have no opposition to copper town unless I see something better......

Copper town but not without an escort.

Currently there is a chariot around the Coppertown location acting as a Fog Buster, he could double back for escort duty.

There is also a warrior in City #1 (Cow + Gold) that can escort.

I'd lean towards doubling back the Chariot though

Chariot yes, but not warrior. Leave the warrior where it is and build another warrior to defend. We don't want to invite an attack on Cow + Gold.

Actually I'd say build an Archer to defend... but the point is the same.

Copper is what we need at the moment go for that

The reason I suggested no escort is that the settler will be walking through territory that has all of the fog cleared from it already by the chariot which falcon has mentioned, and by our third city. The settler will not be surprised by a barbarian. The chariot is then at the city location and is available for initial city defense, until an archer can be brought there.

Moving the chariot to join the settler isn't a bad idea, however I don't think the settler should wait for the chariot, meeting halfway should be adequate, I'm even a bit concerned to suggest that because without that chariot near the copper we won't know if France is pulling another stunt with their settlers, like they did last time we tried to settle this location.

I agree. We don't need an escort as the settler will not be moving through dangerous areas. Especially if the chariot is already there.

Moving the chariot to join the settler

By moving our fogbusting chariot we are in fact making things more dangerous, as we'll allow the possibility for barbarians to appear.

Hmm, valid points too Methos. I change my vote to just Coppertown then, by whatever means.

A barb or animal can appear on any fog square. The two move animals can get a settler completely out of nowhere. I don't remember if there is overlap when both animals and barbs can appear.

I'm inclined to say it's impossible for an animal and a barb to share a tile because I've never seen anything like it but two or more barbs sharing one tile (not even two animals on one tile!). This way of reaching a conclusion is flawed of course so I'm open for any improvements on my conclusion.

Copper.

No preference about the escort.

Copper. I'm OK with not having an escort as long as we have troops positioned along the settler's path.

BTW, settling this city will cost us some gold, which will reduce our research rate. If at all possible we may want to wait to settle until we've reached COL (which I assume will be the next tech to research).

I disagree. If we hook ourselves up to the copper as soon as possible we will get bonus :hammers:'s from hooking up to copper. The additional production :hammers:'s are too important to postpone.

Also, I feel we need to make sure we secure this copper in the off chance we don't have Iron nearby, France's Axes worry me... they show how vulnerable we are, and Napoleon is well known for going after easy prey.
