free tech after city take over

Hey everyone,

I've been away from Civ III for some time but returned to it again recently. Consequently I haven't been able to get anything done the last few days...

One thing I'm confused about was I thought you got a free tech when you take over a city (assuming that civ has techs you don't have). That doesn't seem to be happening when I've been playing... Was that only in earlier versions? or is it an option somewhere?

Never in Civ3. This was a feature in Civ2.

Now, take enough cities, and the AI will give you all it's techs.....

If you penetrate(/ade) deep into the AI's core, he will fear your army. You can persuade him to give you his techs by cohersing him. Usually if the AI is very desperate, he will give you EVERYTHING he's got. All maps, techs, researches, gold, all cities, every resource, his workers, his land, etc. Trust me.
