FS2- The Soviet Union

This head looks a lot of better. The other one made you look like some duck :)

Guys, I cannot play before the weekend. If someone wants to sneak a set of turns in, feel free to do so. If not, I'll play on Saturday or Sunday.

TO WAR
Civ4ScreenShot00015.JPG

We declare war to America in 1970. As a consequence we're at war now with Egypt and Persia as well. Strangely Germany and Saladin had defensive Pacts with one of those as well but those pacts just were cancelled without a breakout of war. Thus we may prevent more wars and have a relatively save border to the west.

We capture Seattle.

Capitalists strikes back
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

America captures Xochicalco in 1971. Egypt approaches Texcoco. We soften a giant stack there, but have to let the other one untouched. We're moving defenders to Texcoco.

In 1972 Tecoco holds very well. We manage to destroy most of the Egypt stacks. As a consequence Egypt now rapidly decreases in Power. The enemy is technologically backwards concerning warfare. Good for the mighty Sovjet Empire!

In 1973 we liberate Xochicalco from the evil Americans and take Philadelphia on the way to Washington.

Finally the Sovjets bombard Washington and Alexandria heavily. Washington can be taken within 2 or 3 years with few efforts making a dream come true for all Sovjets.
But we need to take Alexandria afterwards as well. It developed such high a culture that it cuts Philadelphia from our main land. We need this route for faster supplys.

Seattle is under German pressure. We may consider to gift it to Germany. There seems to be hardly any benefit for us keeping it. But we may win Germany as a friend now that all pacts are broken. Question may be asked if we want this.

Please watch out for our western border though. I saw a rather little American stack sneak through Germany but it didn't come out of it yet :)... And watch out for this northern destroyer (Furgalloregrad) as well. I just lost a battleship at 90% odds there.

We're strong. We could conquer the world. We're at the final steps to it!

And the save

Some thoughts:

Now that the first battles with Egypt are fought, we can and should consider to open up a new front at the Persian colonies. Some 5 or 6 tanks should be enough to bring Cyrus in trouble. The second front will be very useful when it comes to Egypt. Eastern Egypt is weak.

I almost forgot ... Upgrading a Tank to a Modern Armor costs 200 € not 600! Of course we could afford this. I doubt that we have any freakin' Tank left by now, all is upgraded and we even have some money left to spare for the day after (or just spend it on new technologies to come ... did I already say "Stealth Bombers"? :))

Ups ... ... I really JUST realize that we seem to have lost Tenochtitlan to Egypt far in the south. It must have been fallen when I pressed enter and ran into the kitchen. I was so busy at the west front that I didn't really care about the east (at least not that far south).
 I actually really was wondering how we still have under 40% victory conditions fullfilled but I realize that Tenochtitlan is a big deal of that.

I'm really sorry. But alas! Seems that this way Texcoco and the other cities could be defended easier. ...

Though, and I hope you still agree, I think it should be very manageable now to take the east. 2 or 3 turns cranking Modern Armors and within 10 turns not only the Persian colonies but Tenochtitlan and maybe even some other part of eastern Egypt will be ours. Another 5 to 10 turns then to turn down the rest of the continent at war with us.

Great job Pvblivs! Tenochitlan will eventually be recaptured.

I haven't loaded the save yet so I don't know the exact Power situation but judging from your report Egypt seems to be a paper tiger and that's more important than the loss of Tenochitlan.

Sadly, my computer broke down yesterday. I already brought away to be repaired but I don't know how long it will take. Last time it was repaired it was ready within a day so I'm hoping for that.

If it isn't fixed by tomorrow I'll let you know that I will swap with ThERat.

The issue with Tenochtitlan is rather funny, I don't think it to be a problem as well. Not to forget that it lies our way anyway and we'll get immediate cultural expansion recapturing it.

Best wishes for your machines health ;)

Good news, I was told it would take 5 days to repair, however it eventually only took a few hours before I could come to pick it up again.

I will play today, but since the turns take so long at this stage it'll probably be tomorrow before I complete my turnset and post the report.

*whew* Finally finished my turns

The great Soviet Army captured Washington in 1977, and the Russian people celebrated as if the war was already won!

In the north, things didn't look quite as good. Cyrus launched a big invasion with Gunships and Artillery, and Vladivostok was lost. His army was eventually wiped out.

The rest of my turnset wasn't very satisfying, I spent 6 or 7 out of 10 turns trying to break through a stalemate against both America and Egypt. However, Egypt has sacrificed a big part of their Mechanized Infantry, which are very tough to beat in cities, in the open field. We took a big hit during a poor run when we almost only lost our battles. Now we have stabilized, while Egypt's power has decreased rapidly. I *think* they are on the verge of collapse, especially now that we have obtained Mechanized Infantry and Stealth Bombers. Especially those Bombers should help a lot. I hope the (possible) breakthrough has come on time as our enemies are coming closer to their Space Ship. Good luck!

PS: Note that I have a rather large stack of Modern Armors in Texcoco. I saved them for a massive attack once we were able to, as previous attacks were wiped out. You can wait for more Stealth Bombers, or you can attack now if you want.

The Save

got it, let's see whether I can make any progress here

Wow, I've never seen Egyptian cities thus weekly defended. Seems like Hatty really threw her last shirts after us now. 3 defenders only in Heliopolis! That is even less defenders Roosevelt uses for his last refuges. Roosy should've built such an amount of defenders per city when started the campain. Sadly for him he didn't know the variant of this game

Anyway, great set of turns, Strauss! One could expect Cyrus would throw something in somewhere we can't do anything about it immediately. We've got a great empire and that's hard to defend.

I propose that we make peace with him to finish off Hatty faster. Then we may go after Cyrus as fellow Frederick seems too strong. Question is who is further with the spaceship...

Should have made a screenshot about that, but if I remember correctly Saladin, Frederick and Hatty are about equally far on the Space Ship, each needing 2-3 parts.

I do think the war will speed up significantly during ThERat's turnset, because as you mentioned Egypt is only barely able to defend itself now.

What comes into my mind: Therat, if we have (especially stealth) bomber capacities free you could use them to destroy production improvements far in the hinterland of Egypt. That is aluminium, copper, iron and all normal mines, watermills and towns.
As a result Egyptian towns may grow like mad but can hardly produce any new troops. We will not cut through Egypt that fast anyway so that would significantly better our position against Egypt as they'll have fewer reinforcements that we'd have to deal with.

Additionally we don't need fully improved cities, they will hardly come out of revolt before the game ends so we should do anything that improves our progress. Indeed when they come out of revolt we won because our territorry is expanding rapidly. We even could consider to raze cities and replace them with new ones to work around long revolt times and win faster.

Pre-Turn
Roosevelt would make peace, Saladin is the issue with the SS
we need 18% more of the land, more culture will help that and give more happiness anyway
bump it to 20%
the suggestion to have more settler to replace the Egyptian cities sounds good to me as well
get some theatres or jails in unhappy cities

1. 1986AD
the counterattacks are a joke, this is good
capture Tlateloco

2. 1987AD
air attacks on Chicago are pretty unsuccessful with 3 bombers being intercepted and a stealth shot down
attack on chicago is bloody, but next turn we should have that city
raze Giza

3. 1988AD
attack Chicago and it has 1 cat left
attack heliopolis for the 3rd turn and every single air attack gets intercepted

4. 1989AD
finally manage to burn Chicago to the ground
now spot that frederick is 2 parts away from getting the SS, we need to attack him
burn Boston and make peace with Roosevelt and get Mass media in the process
make peace with Cyrus and get 1690gold and 16gpt for that

prepare for war declaration next turn on Fred

take Cali.. in the southwest from Egypt
raze San Fran in the deep south
make peace with hatty for now, we need all units we have to take on Fred
get 1750gold and 15gpt as well for that and Technotilan as well,

upgrade a bunch of units

5.1990AD
declare war on Fred
bomb and attack Cologne and manage to raze it taking out 7 units and 3 fighters
brace for the IT and the many counters I suspect

IT well our stack next to Cologne is history, Fred also razes Atlanta

6. 1991AD
found St. Peter in ex American land before someone else can grab it
Fred has completed life support and only needs one mroe thruster, i'd say this game is lost

exchange some units and move on to Dortmund

IT Germany is strong and takes New York, well it all doesn't matter anymore

frankly this game deserved to be last since the team wasn't a team. I am sure the last 3 players could have pulled this through alone, but with so much disruption and inconsitency, the outcome was clear

by the way, modern warfare is so laggy, it ain't fun at all

Thanks, TheERat for your efforts. Is was fun anyway to lead this war. But we all knew, though hope was left, we could only loose.

So, Farae, here is your game results... We did what we could, but there was not a chance, though we made great progress!

Finally, the Sovjets "lost" in reality as well. So we were just being realistic here  This was our punishment for capturing Washington D.C. :nono:

T'was fun with you 2 last men standing!

Pvblivs

Good effort guys. This game was probably lost already when we tried to pull it through. We did well and even captured Washington DC.
I guess our constant failure to attack Greece early on eventually led to an impossible situation.

The last few turnsets were quite fun though!:)

I'd just like to point out the irony of FS2 losing to Frederick in a space race. In FS1, as Frederick, we dominated the world with military might :p. Still failed the variant though. But it's interesting that Frederick was the winner in the end.
