FS2- The Soviet Union

You were doing great, Strauss. I knew you were a good opener for our impossible mission.

Though: ThERat is up now

I know that he for sure will hardly leave anything for me to conquer ;) Conquer Greece. Conquer China. Conquer the world! Muahahahaha!!!!

Ahem ... About Washington: It is our victory condition to conquer at least Washington D.C. So this is our next task after taking out those backstabbers.

save

Pre-Turn
we do not have much time left to conquer the world, but can try

1. 1941AD
march on to Sparta

2. 1942AD
capture Sparta, march on to Delphi

3. 1943AD
capture Delphi, only Athens left for now

4. 1944AD
marching towards Athens, need to wait for artillery support since it has 80% defense

5. 1945AD
artillery reaches Athens

6. 1946AD
I trade so that we can get radio for bombers, they help a lot in modern warfare
take out 8 units and capture Athens, Greece is gone

7. 1947AD
reduce lux to 10% as WW is gone, shift more units to the east and stop here as it's a good point to let the next person start a new campaign

we do have quite a few units at the Chinese border inculding a bomber, keep on producing them to pound China
we do have a loaded transport near China as well.

I recommend to declare next turn and then let them come and waste their units at our defenses and after that go and destroy them

Great turns ThERat! Maybe we can lead those sovjets at least to an honorable loss :)

I'm up in two SGs now for this evening and I will try my best to manage both. This one has the lesser priority but it sounds like a lot of fun.

What would you do? Roll up the enemy from the northwest as I would? I will see if we can manage to capture more then one at once. I will let those Chinese come first, I hope they come soon ... don't want to wait too long :)

The Save

1948 AD (1)
Declare war. Spy with Bombers the best city target. Figure out that the north has the least units.

1949 AD (2)
Mao looses thousands of units near Shandong. We wastes at least 2 Cannons and 10 Cavs himself and moves a stack of like 30 units (mostly Cannons, some Cavs and Grens) one tile NE of Shandong.
This stack is completely destroyed at the loss of an Artillery in my turn.

Research Robotics and go for Satellites.

1950 AD (3)
Capture Nanjing. Nanjing comes with two intact Shrines (Islam and Confucianism), an Academy and the Angkor Wat.

1953 AD (6)
Capture Guangzhou (has an Academy) and Tianjin.

1955 AD (8)

Capture Baoding. At this moment I stop to play because I need some sleep and every turn does cost a lot of time.

There's a Great Engineer waiting in Kamenogorsk. What can he do for us worthy?

Next one should be able to finish off China as it has wasted almost every of its offense units.

The turns are costing me quite a bit of time, currently halfway. China is out, and we have nearly reached our population target. I'm currently moving units west, but we have a big problem here. Frederick has greatly increased his power and is too strong to attack. Same goes for Egypt, although we are slowly gaining on them; this means the deciding battle could be against them. The only realistic target is Roosevelt, but he has a Defensive Pact with both Cyrus and Hatshepsut, so we'll probably have to wait until we are strong enough to tackle Egypt as well. This could be possible when we get Modern Armor and upgrade all of our tanks (if we can get the money from somewhere).

I'll continue the next 5 turns after lunch, and the save will be up in a couple of hours.

Completed all 10 turns. We are still in with a chance, though time is running out very quickly now that Frederick is starting to become serious about the space race. We are currently 4 turns from Composites and Modern Armor. When we get it, we should put research to 0% and upgrade like mad, while hoping that Egypt won't have the same idea. We are already quite close to Egypt in power, and turning our massive Tank force into a Modern Armor force will give us the edge.

The Americans won't be much of a problem, except perhaps that we'll have to attack them on a small front. Cyrus is only marginally present on the continent.
Egypt will be a very hard nut to crack (just look what they have in one city below) but with Modern Armor and a crushing air force it should be possible (am I right that Fighters can only intercept other airplanes once per turn? If I am, we should perhaps use a 'human wave' tactic in bombing the cities, although we do have Fighters available of course).

Pretty much our entire army is in the west now, all garrisoned in cities; TheRat, you can organise them as you please.

If both of you play your full 10 turns, there's a big chance I have played my last turns. Good luck guys:cool:

Egypt's humble garrison

Getting closer.....

The save

I agree on the great defense pact as next target. If we've a chance then now, because we can upgrade all our tanks. What about stealth bombers here?

Anyway great set of turns turning down China in another 5 turns!

Amazing that this game can be played quite well after all ;)

With conquering the U.S. we meet our last variant victory condition. We must put our flag onto the top of the Capitol in Washington! Afterwards it's just forward...

save

Pre-Turn
wow, loading the game takes ages
Cyrus is halfway through building the SS, we need to be faster here
no matter who we attack we will get a multiwar due to the defensive pacts
better wait to upgrade the army

1. 1966AD
we get a great merchant that will sponsor our upgrading project

2. 1967AD
GW give us 1500gold for upgrading next turn

3. 1968AD
composites are in, switch off research for the time being
what??? to upgrade 1 tank we need 600gold, thats nonsense, we could afford to upgrade 1 1/2 a turn, might as well declare war straight away but the defensive pacts make this impossible

4. 1969AD
I don't know how we are going to attack since this will set a chain reaction off that will kill us

5. 1970AD
I stop here sicne we need to decide whether we attack America, the only feasible target, however this will set Egypt and Cyrus in motion, which would slow them down.
we got 1500gold to upgrade more units for the next player to decide

600 gold?

I don't have the time to look at the save now (as you said it takes ages to load and I have to go in 15 minutes) but I'm guessing some of our cities can build Modern Armor in 1-2 turns. Combined with upgrading, this means we can get a reasonable force of them in a few turns, which would be more than enough to kill off the Americans and should be enough to hold off the Egyptians (as long as they don't get Modern Armors themselves of course).

I'll look at the save when I get back to check if I'm correct and to see if there is a way to get more money.

How much is it to upgrade those bombers?

Against Egypt me may need some bunkers and fighters for protection...

Lurker's Comment: Spy them and destroy their oil!
the issue with any war is the initial amount of units the enemy has, once they burn them, the war is won anyway...

Hatty usually has quite a great initial amount of units. I once lead such a war against Hatty. To slow Hatty down we could consider to bombard her close borders that her first turn ends without her capable of doing any damage.

p.s.: Strauss, your previous Avatar was better. This one looks a lot of weaker ;)

We should indeed try to cripple Hatty quickly.

And I got tired of Kublai's big head;)
