Or how China was destroyed by the animal kingdom!
I started a game as Qin Shan Huang of the Chinese who, incidentally, always seems to have the worst luck in starting on land that is some combination of the north pole and the Sahara desert. Sending out my first warrior to explore, I find a friendly village which provides me with a scout. I send the new scout south over open land while my warrior heads for the forested area to the west. My men mount a small hill and the trees are in sight, but just then they are ambushed by a wolf pack from outside of our line of sight. In a spate of bad luck, two thirds of the warriors die despite the defensive bonus. I thought it was over, but then out of nowhere a second wolf-pack hits them in the same turn! The injured troop survives the second attack so I set them to heal. Meanwhile, down south, our scouts are exploring a river/floodplain area. They move for an isolated copse of trees and unfortunately, right into the path of a hungry pride of lions. They are promptly devoured in the next turn. Then the map flips back to the warriors up north, and low and behold, they are surrounded on every side by multiple hordes of beasties! Perhaps this was just bad luck or maybe... Mother Nature is intent on destroying the Chinese people once and for all!

Mother Nature Strikes... Again!
