Hello, I'm quite new to the civilization game....and I'm only playing the third one to see how I like them...But for Civilization 3, in your opinions, what is the funnest civilization, and give a reason why please....thanks!!(:

I like playing as Japan because I think samurais are awesome. This awesomeness while playing equals fun too. Japan is great for conquest and conquest or domination victories are probably the funnest because I enjoy wars (as long as I am winning the wars).

I like France. Commercial gives me more core and semi-core cities and fewer cities to farm scientists in. Industrious is fun fo the increased worker speed. It's no longer the dominant trait it was in vanilla, but is still decent. I admit Agricultural is a stronger trait, but I don't enjoy it as much (although being able to have a decent city in the middle of the desert is nice). The UU is unexciting but at least it doesn't get you the dreaded Ancient Age Golden Age.

For me the fun UU's are the 3 moves. Riders and Spahis are cool and very effective.

Although I like France, I think Maya is one of the strongest out there. On lower levels you can keep exploring with the UU for a long time.

And, of course, everybody likes Persia. Immortals gives a nice early edge and they're Industrious.

Welcome to the forums! :band:

My personal favorite is the Ottomans. Love Sipahi and they are industrious.

I like France; I don't play France too often because Joan is so mean to me in all my other games no matter how much love I send in her direction.

China is great (as Ataxerxes already said). I prefer industrious civs, but that is a personal preference. Iroquois with Mounted Warriors are good for an AA rollover.

Egypt's not a bad choice either, other than the UU. I just like Egypt. Religious and Industrious. I don't normally build a lot of temples/cathedrals, but they are a solid civ.

It really depends on what Victory Condition (VC) you've selected. (Almost) Every civ is good for something.

**Edit** I almost forgot about Rome! It was the first Civ I every played. I just love Legions!

I'm pretty new to CivIII but I just love Byzantine!
Their unique unit is an ancient-era warship that spits napalm!

I like to "strangle" an opponent by building the aforementioned Dromon ships and sending them to coast and burning their coastal improvements and wrecking havoc to their cities..

I also like England because of their juicy ships.

The Iroquois, Aztec, or the Byzantines and some others, because I always get confused where the hell my cities are, because I don't recognize the unpronounceable names.
.
This is turning into another 'what is the best' thread, while he is asking about the 'funniest'.
I'm not sure if one is funnier than the other.
The Celt leader and the Viking leader look kinda funny.

Yea, I'm not to concerned on "what's the best" because if you're decent at the game, all of them will be the same...but some might be more fun than the others...i was just wondering(:

since there is no such word as "funnest" then no Civ can be chosen. let me guess - public school?

Yet i used that word twice -.- well....how about "which civilization provides more fun over all the other civilization" better? haha, but yes, public school, which really isn't as much of a school as it is a zoo....but the sad thing is I'm really picky about grammar, spelling, or word usage /:

I think playing as the American empire can be fun because then I rename all my cities with cities near me. Washington is near me so that can stay the same, but New York will be Arlington and Philly-Alexandria, and so on.

You can do that with every civ...:D

I think the most fun is with a seafaring civ because you get better ships, which is fun. Because losing a ship full of armies sucks and there's just something fun about ruling the 7 seas.

I have by far the most fun playing the ottomans. Good trait combination, can keep up in any game type, and they have the UU that gives me the most fun. Sipahi have an attack bonus and movment 3, which lets you mince your oppnent with lightning speed once you get them. A well orchestrated and prepared sipahi campaign can eat the AI cities in record time, and is thrilling to attempt.

I think playing as the Mayan's is very fun, because for some reason its fun conquering people as a Meso-American Civ. The Ottoman are fun to play as in the late Middle Ages because the Sipahi are powerfull and can move 3 sqaures, same goes for Germany because there Panzer adds a extra movement point to the tank, for some reason when I first started playing Civ 3, I just couldn't get enough of rome.

I still laugh regularly at the barking dog of the Spanish Conquitador and the sneezing riflemen. Otherwise I couldn't class civs as fun or not fun.

I would say that two "funniest" civs are France and the Hitties:
France- It's fun to see the pink uniformed units kick butt- it's hard to imagine an entire army dressed in pink with pink Riflemen, pink cavalry and with tanks that have pink stars painted on them.
Hitties- I can learn a lot of history from them, cities like Ugarit,Hattusas and other which are now archeology quarries stand to the modern age. All their cities are long abandoned in the real world.

The closest thing to a pink army would be the NFL in breast cancer awareness month. (google it, if you don't know what I'm talking about).
Grown men beating each other up wearing pink gloves will always strike me as odd.

It’s NOT pink. It’s light red. :p

I often try to invoke the spirit or reputation of a civ when playing, so the Aztecs and Vikings can be especially fun. Montezuma's "Shall we trade together, or would you prefer to go to war and do battle until one of us is wiped off the face of the planet?" greeting used to my sig here.

I don't play the Byzantines as often as I do the Celts or the Egyptians, but I will often start up a Byzantine game just for Dromon.

I enjoy the Maya the most, because of how fast cities can grow with the agricultural trait, and because I enjoy using faster workers rather than slower workers.
