I alrady posted http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=235694 about 6600GT problems, today i was at my two friends with my video card. Both friends had random crashes (like me) with my Asus N6600GT with "162.18_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql" drivers. N6600GT definitely have problems with this game, im sure of it now, becouse we did a little test:

1. 3 pc's with "Asus N6600GT", 162.18 drivers had random crashes, interface problems etc
2. All 3 pc's had the same error: View attachment PythonErr.txt
3. Same 3 pc's with "Saphire X1600 Pro" had ZERO crashes

Conclusion: e-e-m

I'm receiving "Failed initializing Python". This is the most similar thread
i could find to the problem. I am not very computer savey but
i can follow instructions if someone has an idea.

I also wanted to add that this place is awesome. Wish I found it a couple of years ago.

I would suggest trying the Civ4 technical support forum. From a quick search, it appears that the 'best' solution appears to be a full uninstall & then a reinstall.

Welcome! :D

I tried the install and uninstall. I added the patch, made sure windows was updated, updated the driver........that is about the extent of my knowledge and half of it i learned tonight while reading forums.

I click "Play" and it starts to load. When i get to the Initializing python section I get the failed portion.

Did you uninstall Civ4 as well as BTS? They use some shared files, so you might have to uninstall them all.

I would uninstall, then delete the install directory completely (in case there is some left-over files), then reinstall.

I have the same card, no problems. But I'd advise you to revert to the last forceware 90 series (97.94), they are the best for GeForce 6 cards. Newer drivers don't get along so well with those.

Be sure to make a clean uninstall before (registry cleaning especially).

ok, tryed this guys fix http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=236551 , yes it helped to fix the python errors, but now i have bigger problems  now the game just hangs after few turns and pops up a dialog "Civ4BeyondSword.exe has encountered a problem, do you want to make a memory dump?"

i'm so tired of this... damn this game sucks ass...

Did anyone find a solution to this error? I'm having the same problem and no one has posted a solution. An uninstall and reinstall has not helped, nor has the patch.
