I was aware of that...

By the way ruff_hi,
I guess William Shakespeare had some very interesting settings for the Globe Theatre.
:D :p :D

Rather good odds...

Here's one that may be funny ...

More attack of the killer clams on the left and "gee, I wonder why this city doesn't get more visitors" on the right.

Fight a lot of high odds battles and protect him with a personal bodyguard (spear/pike/rifle with medic) when necessary.

The was another guy with a lvl 13 praetorian (mine got up to lvl 11 before I stopped playing that map).

You could use world builder  but that's no fun.

Anyway...I don't think this harbor is helping the ships much...

Edit: added better picture from different angle

1. How do you get the game to ask for a name? It just saves on mine.
I actually don't know how to get a name, it just asked me for the first time with that screen shot and I've taken a bunch before this one. Pretty weird, but yeah it saves into the civ folder and you can just rename it there.

No screenshot (game over and wiped) but as in the posting above the AI had a city next to a one-tile lake, where it launched a Battleship. Poor thing didn't even have room to turn round.

Huh? I thought a city couldn't build ships unless it was on the coast!

the poor romans must be really desperate to get away from this planet ...

Vlad Tepes - buna ziua ! but no, city was on the lake shore not the sea coast. I've had several (bigger) lakes, on various maps, on the shores of which the AI built functional harbours and far-less useful ships. I just mentioned an extreme case. Since ships can enter and leave cities from and to any adjacent water tiles, in the case of Athens (above) there would actually be access to the harbour by ships passing through the city.
I do have to add that I am not certain as to whether the above is always true, or if the location of the Harbour has to be on the shore of a body of salt water. This I cannot test in my current game, and I have cleared out my old ones.

I recently found a computer players galley in one of my inland cities without access to the sea. (we had open borders)
