I suspect a big part of the reason is that it is the Buddhist holy city.

I know there have been threads on the spread of religion by missionaries, but I'm not surprised that attempt didn't work.

EDIT - GiantRaven - This post I once made explains the icons.

What are the other icons above the city name there for? I've never seen that

edit: cool, never seen that before

From left to right
The angry red face means there's unhappy people there.
The Hammer indicates this city produces the most hammers of any of his cities
The stack of coins indicates this city produces the most commerce
The Beaker indicates the city produces the most science beakers
The three arrows indicates the city is connected to the civ's trade network
The Budda with the star indicates it's the Buddism holy city
The black tower with the +60% means the city has a 60% defense bonus.

you can turn on those items in the option menu. Its called something like 'detailed city info'

civantares, I love the irony of Judaism failing to spread to Yerushalaim.

BTW, thanks for not calling it "Jerusalem". I'm very interested in your Yisrael mod. Did you make it?

Edit: My transliteration sucks. I'm sorry if I spelled the names wrong. I'll take the Hebrew any day over Xliteration.

Everest, it's time to sit down, we have found the real mountain range!:

@rex_tyranus- Actually isn't my mod, it is Sevo's CivFanatic Fusion 2.0 . He took a bunch of mods, added some of his other creations and made a great mod with it, I've enjoyed using it. He went to the point that he took out the old music and age change pictures and added his own!

I think someone mixed up the game, how is saladin "willing to trade me Nationalism", when he won't even talk to me!

Oddly enough, the game sets the techs and resources of those people whom you're at war with to "willing to trade", even if they refuse to talk. I think it means that those techs/resources are hypothetically up for trade in peace negotiations if things get bad enough.

But he refuses to talk, so how can he be willing to have peace negotiations?

had a game the other day where mansa was on Friendly terms with me, but he refused to talk! suddenly after a few years he came wanting open borders and all sorts of trade :) I think he held onto the fact that I stopped trade relations with him WAY to serious...

(ohh and I wanted a screen shot of this but I only copied the shot to the clipboard with the printscreen key, what is the ingame command for a screenshot)
