I take it there are mountains blocking the path south? Hard to tell from the screenshot. Although even if one can expand south, it's still a pretty crummy site. :lol:
 
I thought the destroyer build was dumb enough, until I saw the battleship being built. At least the destroyer can cruise around between 8 useless sea tiles... I don't think the battleship can even get out of port :rolleyes: .

in theory, the battleship could get out of port if it was BtS and if the AI would build a fort to use as a canal. it and the destroyer could maybe reach useful sea that way to the west, in theory, if forts were on just the right tiles. but the AI doesn't build forts to use as canals *sigh*. they just happen to use them as canals if a worker happened to build a fort there because a resource was on the tile.

so, yup, even if you were playing BtS, where theoretically it wouldn't be 100% stupid, yes it's 100% stupid. :rolleyes:

hey wait. the destroyer's semi-sort of halfway okay tho maybe. they can see subs, and there might possibly be enemy subs under the ice, right? but destroyer can't fight them under ice, so he'd just know they're there but not be able to do anything about it. it could defend fishing boats but i don't see any there to defend. maybe it should be building subs instead :crazyeye:. at least it's a better choice than a battleship, which wouldn't be able to defend the non-existent fishing boats, or kill the sub before it could try to bombard the city but fail since they can't do that. :lol:
 
A sub would be totally cool to build there. I mean, it's quite a rare occasion that their under-ice ability comes in handy, so they should go for it because it's such an awesome (if somewhat useless) ability.
 
It is indeed the bottom of the map, it's a Civ IV Vanilla 'Highlands' custom map, in which I'd specified clustered mountains (Hoping Santa's bringing BtS, lol), and I must admit I'd never considered crossing the lake.

On the subject of the bottom of the map, I entered a village on the bottom line of the map the other day. When a forest grew after the hut vanished, I noticed the trees actually start underneath the earth's crust, and just rise all the way to the surface. How cool is that?

How has your second city's border expanded but not your capitol's? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

yes, Gilgamesh has a huge fleet (seven galleons and thirteen caravels) in a freshwater lake belonging to Hammurabi, that can never get out unless Hamm happens to build forts in just the right places, which of course he won't do. actually, i don't know if you can even use your vassal's forts?

we've all seen ships in a lake, but the way it happened is truly bizarre. Gilly split off a colony this turn. this is the capital ... of the new colony :crazyeye:

that's a very nice city! well, it would be if it wasn't being harassed by mysterious privateers that i have claim no knowledge of, but that's beside the point. it's got the pyramids, statue of zeus, parthenon, temple of artemis, and you're going to give it away?

his colony has a lot more population than his own civ now. i'd seen him move his palace many moons ago, and puzzled over it. i don't think i've ever noticed the AI do that before. it was long before the privateer infestation. i just kinda think that Gilgamesh should have considered moving his palace back over to wonder-ville before making the split. he did do one clever thing ... changed to Rep this turn, apparently right before giving away the pyramids :lol:.

my poor privateers will never get exp off of those ships :(. oops did i type that out loud?

edit: oh yes they are as a matter of fact! i'm gonna make a city south of bad-tibera. not on that hill you can see, but 2 south of that. there are crabs i could eat, and i could make a fort to go in and kill kill kill! yarrrrrr!
